Beautiful, vast and lots of history. The royal family does not live in this palace. Be sure to visit the military museum, garden and catedral.

It is a nice palace.. can't argue with the lavish rooms, they are a sight to behold. Why the average rating? Well despite having the largest interior square footage of any palace in Europe, comparatively little is open to the public... maybe a dozen rooms. On top of this there is a very strict ban on photography, making it exceedingly difficult to get any pictures. If you've been to other palaces in Europe (particularly the big ones like Versailles and Schönbrunn), this one could be skipped. If not or you really enjoyed the others, it's worth a visit... particularly at the student rate which is a much better value.

We paid a little extra and got a tour with an English speaking guide. We were the only ones with her, so we had our own tour. The tour guide was excellent which made the tour even more memorable. I love castles and palaces, so this was a fantastic experience for me. The only negative is you are not allowed to take pictures inside the palace.

We did a self-tour of the Royal Palace in Madrid. It is a must see. We did the tour on our own and found it to be very interesting. Massive palace that you won’t see anything like it anywhere. Took us about 2 hours and it was nice to be inside out of the heat of Madrid. We also visited the visit the Almudena Cathedral in front of the palace – don’t miss that one as well.

Been there a dozen times, the longest i had to wait was 15 minutes, the palacio is superb, the yard as well, and the tour with the guide. I can understand that it is expensive for non Eu citizens but for one time it maybe ok. As for this discrimination, I do not understand it either, although i am Eu citizen
