The only thing I can say other than "breath taking" is that 6 hours is not enough time! We only covered level 2, where the Picasso permanent collection is housed. If you are a lover of modern art, buy a 5 day pass!

Upon advise of our host we took advantage of the free admission after 4p.m. Good opportunity to get a quick look at some of Spain's art treasures.

I am amazed by the size of this place and the amount of display. It seems that you would need a whole day to browse through. I wish that there were more sitting areas to rest.

This is a marvelous museum, we really enjoyed our visit. The Prado is one of the premier museum's in Europe, if not the world. It seems mainly devoted to 16th and 17th century. I had to look very closely to see that it wasn't actually lace, that's how good it was. The museum is huge and pretty overwhelming, but worth visiting.

We arrived at 11 and left at 6:30, including both lunch and afternoon tea. Yes, we saw everything. If you're short on time or not reallly into art, it's still worth while, just target your plans and make sure to see the Dauphin's treasures at the very top of the Villanueva building.

Everyone raves about the famous Prado as a world class art museum. They had some good exhibits (like Albrecht Durer). Other than that most of the paintings were of Spanish Royalty or religious paintings. I guess I expected more variety with landscapes of Spain but few were to be found.
The audio guide fo 6 Euro was not worth the price. There was no volume control, the commentaries were way too long, if you wandered too far from the painting the machine would cut out, not all the numbers worked on the machine. We entered through the modern wing having already purchased our tickets on line. There was a nice cafe there and gift shop.

A lot to see in 3 hours. Guide was very knowledgeable about all the masterpieces he showed us, and it made a massive difference having a guide, to show us where to go, and what to see. The guide also explained in detail individual aspects of each work of art.

Had been here many years ago but like any special museum it is worth going again and again! We had a guide for a 2 hour tour that highlighted some of the most important pieces. That was wonderful as the Prado is overwhelming! Enjoy!

A wonderful museum packed with a vast collection of paintings by Spanish artists in particular.
And that was the problem. I am not a philistine, but there was a total overload of very similar paintings in room after room after room.
The majority of these fine works are of biblical scenes/interpretations
The single Rembrandt on display is in an upstairs room and is worth the visit alone.
The cafe is particularly expensive.
I appreciate that this is a world renowned museum, but I believe the Tate has more variety.
