The scale of this museum could be overwhelming for some people if you don't plan ahead. If you don't have a guide then the masterpiece itineraries on the Prado website are helpful advising what to do depending on how much time you have available, e.g. 50 masterpieces in 3 hours. We did not have to queue or pre-purchase tickets for our visit which was good. The cafe was in a great location for a refreshing espresso before we continued taking in each masterpiece. Allow up to five hours if you only have one day to visit.
