The English translation for its name is the Main Square, which describes in fact its status as a major public space in the heart of Madrid. This is one place you don't want to miss, critical for your rounded, full impression of the city. It is an expansive opening in the middle of narrow and busy streets of central Madrid, one of the prettiest squares in the country, a beautiful combination of amazing architecture, picturesque facades all around and arched colonades.

Beautiful place to go if you never been there before. Just sightseeing and picture taking unless you are in the mood for shopping.

During the Christmas season it looks like a much-lived square, with Christmas markets and food shops all around. Let yourself be carried away by the scents and taste!

this is one of the great tourist attractions of Madrid but it is also very popular with locals, there are numerous eating establishments and plenty of small but fascinating small shops. it is easy to find and worth a visit, sadly it also is where the homeless tend to gather late at night and there are many temporary "homes" built from cardboard boxes, however don't let this put you off as they move on, or are moved on, before most visitors arrive, it is worthwhile reading up on the history of this plaza, which will give you a better understanding of its importance the people of this beautiful city

Lots of things to see and buy, children oriented. Metro close by. Lots of people for people watching.
