“A Dynamic City Hub”
Reviewed April 8, 2013

The Puerta del is a hub connecting around 5 major streets. It is an open square with lots of shopping, restaurants, a metro station and street entertainment. I really enjoyed the intensity of the square even if the weather is bad. This also is an area where you have to watch for pickpockets. This square feels like the heart of Madrid and is a fun place to visit.

“Starting point for visiting old Madrid town”
Reviewed April 1, 2013

Easy to access within public transportation undergriund, SOL is the stated point for a visit to the Madrid old town (Austrias´s Madrid). For walking the old streets, to buy some "typical" gift, to eat "tapas" around plaza Mayor, a lot of "bares" or places for eating... best way is eat some light in every bar and going to other bar looking for new "tapa". Take care with money-bags, some times the turist are victims of thiefs becauese many people are in the streets.

“average”
Reviewed March 17, 2013

Just a plaza with Mickey mouse and some other chracters, mimes doing shows hoping to get cash. There is many fake bag sellers and homeless people looking for charity which may make it dangerous for some naive tourists. There is a el corte ingles and various other shops but nothing really unique or special.

“Pleasant walk”
Reviewed March 12, 2013

If you like a lovely walk the this is a lovely place to visit. Madrid is such a lovely place to walk around, so many nooks and crannies to explore and cafes on every corner to taste the Spanish food. The city was built for the pedestrian and I have always felt very safe here.

“A Very Busy Place”
Reviewed March 5, 2013

If you visit Madrid you will probably see the Puerta del Sol, because it is ground zero and the geographic center of Spain. There is a marker that shows the center and from which all other cities are measured.

There are many stores, many selling souvenirs, many restaurants. One just has to be careful because there are also many pickpockets, waiting for the unwary tourist.
