My initial experience of the Plaza was coming up from the metro after having arrived from Seville. What I as greeted by was a pseudo Disneyland vaudevillian experience that was so tacky it was comical. Poorly costumed Mickey Mice (yes there is more than one mouse on display), Donald Duck and to cap it off Woody from Toy Story are all there to peddle their cheap balloon swords and stitch you up for a photo that comes at a price. But it gets better. Not to be out done there are also characters from the popular Nickleodeon series Sponge Bob Square Pants just to arrival their Disney counterparts. If I want Americana, I'll take a trip to Anaheim and visit the real thing.
As a tourist destination it leaves a lot to be desired. It's seedy, dirty and full of people peddling cheap wares that really deserve to be sold at a circus. The only thing of any real interest, the fluorescent Tio Pepe Billboard is nowhere to be seen; taken down as the new owners of the building it sits on top of decide what to do with it.
My advice walk quickly through and if you can avoid it for the rest of your short stay in this awful city then you would be doing yourself a big favour.
