I do love peruvian cuisine and I am a great admirer of Gaston Acurio. I value his effort to bring peruvian culture all over the world, and yes, I always try to visit one of his restaurants when i get the chance. It is just so difficult to satisfy ceviche cravings in Europe. Since the atmosphere in Madrid's Astrid and Gaston is a bit cold and stiff, we opted for Tanta, which has a bit more Bistro atmosphere. Regarding food: the ceviche lived up to the standards, but the portion was microscopely tiny. What a shame that the poor butterfish anticucho was so overcooked that I was tempted to call animal watch. That poor thing has been killed twice...
On top of the rather disappointing food experience, the service was unloving and careless. Very disappoint for a peruvian food addict.
But Gaston, if you read this, I have a big heart and will be forgiving, if you finally open a la mar in Berlin.

Apparently "tanta" means bread in the Inca language, but it offered a wide range of really attractive dishes of all kinds, with a Peruvian twist. The wines were good, but only Spanish: they miss a trick in not offering any Hispano-American wines. The prices were very reasonable, and the service was excellent, and it is family friendly. A very lively atmosphere, once the place filled up (after 9.30pm)

Same owners as El Huarique de Astrid & Gaston, though more relaxed atmosphere
loverly food and good service, helpful staff. Have to admit that although the food is good
the taste at the Huarique is much better.

You might think that Peruvian food is like Mexican or Salvadorean but it is very different. The food here is quite tasty and the sauces are very interesting and delicious. I go here when I get sick of "the same old thing". My favorite plate is the grilled butter fish but it has been great twice and only good once. I like the place because teh atmosphere is nice and the waiters are kind (you do need to speak Spanish or it may be a lot of sign language).

I think the reduced "Daily menu" at lunch time is a great bargain and I recommend it. Ask for the "menu del Día". If you go in the evening, you must order of teh regular menu. It turns out to be about 35 Euros a person. I just wish tehy would offer a free after dinner drink or be a bit more generous when they pour the wine. So not a cheap place, but worthy of something different to celebrate a special occasion. Oh, not too far from Metro Colombia.
