“Beautiful hotel!”
Reviewed June 3, 2013

We spend one night at the NH Hotel Palacio de Tepa in Madrid and loved it! It's brand new and in a perfect location to explore the city, walking distance to many tourist attractions, good food options around it, etc.
The bed was so so comfortable we had a much needed rest after travelling around Spain, the rooms are huge, there's complimentary wifi and the service was outstanding. Another thing we loved about it, it smelled really nice.
Totally recommend it!

We really enjoyed this hotel. The location was ideal. You walk 50 meters and you have plenty of restaurants and shops (even a convenience store).
Our room (suite on floor 1) was beautifully decorated, original in volume (vaulted), very convenient with a young kid (2). If you can, pick a suite, because significantly larger and nicer design. No noise except ordinary car trafic, but not a disturbance.
Very large bathroom, with separate shower and bath.
Very large closets.
They put a nice baby's bed and cute baby's bath products. Much appreciated.
Nespresso coffee machine in the room.
Small fitness club next to the room. We did not use it, but we enjoyed their fresh apples when passed by.
We did not have to breakfast in the hotel, but we had lunch in their restaurant. There too original design. The food was good.
Service was always helpful and smiling.
Warmly recommended.

Room Tip: Our room was on the first floor (above reception) and next to a small garden store.

Stop over on way to Ecuador. Extremely polite helpful staff. Rooms good. Fast Internet not at a comedy price. Excellent location close to restaurants bars and metro. Good gym in hotel. Remember to look at excavations behind the check in desk. All together highly recomend.

It's great service that distinguishes first class hotels from the rest - and that's what you get here. From front desk to chamber maids, the service is excellent. There was an incredibly minor problem with our room which dragged on for 3 nights - if this hadn't been dealt with so professionally and politely, we'd have been hacked off. In recompense we had a discount on our bill and a bottle of cava, chocolate & strawberries delivered to our room with an apologetic letter and phone call from the manager.
We'd asked up front for a quiet room - and that's what we had. It meant we had no view but the hotel is in a bustling very central area and so if you're a light sleeper, this could be a problem. Really comfortable superking is always a bonus.
Breakfast is first rate - great cold selection and excellent hot dishes. I recommend the wonderful tomato juice - just try it!
Is it good value? It's certainly not the cheapest bed in town but for a very comfortable quiet night's sleep in a central location with fantastic service and really tasty breakfasts, I'd say 'yes', pretty good value.

Room Tip: We stayed in 422 - no view but very very quiet.

We were two couples and one single in our 70's staying in this hotel for three nights in early May 2013. As others have said, the location is in the center of the old city right on the Plaza del Angel and adjacent to the Plaza de Santa Ana, both places where you can sit outdoors and people watch while having a cafe, beer or munching on tapas. The bustling puerta del sol and plaza mayor are only a few short blocks away and within easy walking distance. There are plenty of tapas bars, good restaurants and places to buy wine and cheese close by. For those first-timers, the double decker city tour buses are a great way to get a feel of the city when you first arrive although we had private van tours of the Prado, royal palace and other sites including nearby Toledo the following two days.

The hotel staff was friendly and very helpful, especially when we were having trouble getting our phones working properly. We chose to have breakfast included and the choice was a good one. The buffet food was varied and tasty plus they would serve most anything you wanted from the kitchen. We did not try their restaurant as our objective was to eat in as many local food places as possible during our stay.

Our rooms were on the busy Calle Atocha side of the building and we made the mistake of not closing the inside doors at the balcony window our first night. It was a Saturday and very noisy with late night party folks who kept us awake. The next nights we closed the doors at the window and slept like babies on very comfortable beds. The hotel is an older but completely remodled building done with modern furnishings. The floors are bare, giving a neat and clean appearance as well as the knowledge you are not walking around on old wall-to-wall carpeting. The bathrooms were updated, clean and functional. As with other more modern hotels we stayed in during our Spain trip, there was a bothersome lack of lighting in the rooms and this would be our only negative comment about our stay. On the plus side, it was the only hotel we stayed in (all four & five stars) that had free wi-fi in the rooms. It is a hotel we would definately return to.

Room Tip: Others have said outside rooms are noisy but you'll sleep fine if you close both the outside and...

Stayed here for 2 nights. Front desk staff very professional and great English. Small lobby, small modern elevators as is usual in Europe. Stayed on the 5th floor on one of the few rooms that faced the inner courtyard with no view but was not really intending to be in the room that much, so not a big deal. I chose this property for it's location near Las Huertas and Plaza Mayor, a few blocks from Sol etc, and glad I did. Right outside the hotel it was bustling with people to all hours and restaurants, shops and all the main historic locations within easy walking distance.

This is kind of a boutique hotel with 85 rooms, some are 2 storey suites. clean, modern, nice beds, nice marble bathrooms. TV selection for english viewers is minimal just the BBC news, and CNBC europe, no movies or sports so keep that in mind. very small gym with a few treadmills. has a spa but no facilities pool, sauna steamroom etc. small restaurant which serves a "terrace" area in front of hotel outside. they charge 1-2 euros for the food to serve it outside. aside from that though there aren't many facilities so for that reason i wouldn't classify it as a 5 star hotel - but it's nice nonetheless. i'd say this is an upscale 4* hotel.

for breakfast i almost laughed when they asked if i wanted the breakfast buffet for 20 euro. of course I declined since immediately outside or within a 5 min walk I got a 5 euro breakfast of cafe, fresh orange juice and pastries on plaza mayor. tons of other options nearby for less than 10 euros. do not eat at the hotel. room service for anything in the minibar was completely ridiculous as usual - 7 euro for a small bottle of coke.

if you're looking for bank machines there are not many around the hotel - walk two blocks north west to puerto del sol and calle mayor and there are tons there.

the basic free internet was ok. i dont' know why it's fort knox though on the lockdown on all the codes - you get a 24 hour code for each device and have a login procedure but everytime it powers down or you leave the hotel and come back you have to reconnect. reconnection wasn't that big of a deal but there must be some reason why they should get rid of the swisscom service provider and just go with something more straightforward - are there that many people trying to steal the hotel's wifi access you have to lock it down like it's a military installation? the basic service was crap for skype -gave up. 100mb a day which i easily hit just doing basic browsing. the extra i believe was 9 euro upcharge per day. I've seen worse but jezuz, just give some basic high speed wifi without all the crazy login codes like they do in most u.s. hotels.

Room Tip: try not to get the 21 and 22 rooms which face the inner courtyard and have zero view

Spend 6 nights on two separate occasions. Great central location with the main attractions, eating and atmosphere .. all within walking distance. The tapas bar attached also serves great modern tapas. The hotel is high quality and the service at teh front desk was great.
