“Great location & very comfortable”
Reviewed November 19, 2012

There are some real plusses to this hotel: the location is excellent just off the Gran Via and a short walk from the main shoping area of Central Madrid. The hotel is very clean, has an excellent bar and reception were very helpful. The rooms are not huge, but then this is the centre of a capital city and that is to be expected. The really good news is that all of the building work seems to have now been completed so there is no noise, there were no half-finished corridors as in previous reviews and the place was spotless.
The bathroom was very nice and the power shower was excellent (there is plenty of water pressure, but you have to press the button on the knob to release it to go further round - this is common in many Spanish hotels but a seafety mechanism not common in UK ones, so people don't know that there is a higher pressure/heat gauge).
However, whoever had the idea to decorate the rooms with the pictures on the walls needs shooting. they are truly hideous and not worthy of a four star hotel. The finishing just seems to have been done on the cheap - from the laminate floors (carpet would have been nice, even in Summer) to the perspex on the floor and walls of the bathroom with torn patters underneath, to the perspex walls with the murals behind. It will certainly save wear and tear for the hotel, but it was just a really poor idea.
It didn't spoil our holiday though - we've encountered hotels in London with poor workmanship - as the room was comfortable and the location was superb.
Overall, a really nice stay.

Everything about this hotel is very aesthetically pleasing, the breakfast is nice and it is in a great location in central Madrid. But that is as far as it goes!
The staff were not very friendly and were rather incompetent. For example, we booked a queen room with bath and were given a twin room with shower, then upon complaining we were given a double room with shower (and felt that this was as good as we were going to get so settled). The cleaner on the second morning took 1 bath towel but did not replace it which meant another trip to reception to complain and were told they will put towels in the room. However, when we returned there were two fresh hand towels and still one used bath towel!
The room was not very practical, for example, there was a mirror wall could not easily be used due to the television that was put on the same wall. The lighting in the bedroom and bathroom also was not very bright, this was not helped by the dark walls!
We also spent a night in Hotel Catalonia which is 5 minutes walk from this hotel, was cheaper and of much higher standard.

Room Tip: Book with Hotel Catalonia instead.

We booked a superior room and were quite pleased with the room on the 3rd floor. The decor was anything but boring the bathroom had a floating glass floor suspended above beach sand complete with pebbles and shells and our bedroom had deep purple walls. The room got quite hot at night and we could not work the air conditioner however the window opened and this helped. The staff were friendly and helpful. The food in the restaurant amazingly good.

Room Tip: Ask for a renovated room on an upper level

Location is not great, very central, but central Madrid is not the best area in town.
Rooms are noisy, tiny, outdated, AC does not work properly, the bed is not comfortable and pillows are terrible.
Laundry delivered another guest shirt to my room in a mistake. Nobody noticed it.
Staff is nice, and breakfast is good. The lobby is well decorated.
Overall I don't recommend it.
No gym.

Staying here on short break,. I was quite nervous after reading the other reviews, but really this hotel is well placed and good value. We asked for a quiet room and were placed in an internal room on the first floor. It is quiet although the walls are thin enough to hear the snorer next door, but the mural on the wall is something else. Two walls decorated in an underwater scene. We have debated if they are jellyfish or swamp flowers but whatever they are we have no idea why you would decorate a room I this way. We asked for more pillows and mentioned that the remote wasn't working and that was all sorted without delay.

Hotel is in good location, walking distance to major sights. They have a nice rooftop pool, but it is closed to public whenever they have a function, which happened to be the 2 days we were there. If the hotel has a wedding or party on, check that your room is not close by. my window was right next to where the party goers all went to smoke, so I was awake all night listening to loud music and people talking, rang reception several times but to no avail, got no sleep and left the next morning very tired and cranky, informed hotel staff, but they didnt seem to care. Would have enjoyed the hotel otherwise.

Room Tip: Ask for a quiet room away from the noise of the function rooms
