I booked this hotel based on its competitive rates, convenient location, my previous experiences with AC hotels (all positive) and the connection with Marriott's reward program. The location was indeed fine - Convenient to Atocha rail station & museums. Facilities were clean, with AC's typical contemporary style. I'm guessing most people will either love or hate the rooms, with open hanging space & glass shower enclosure. I liked it. Unfortunately, all of that was far outweighed by the problems I experienced during my three day stay & lack of concern from the hotel staff. Inconveniences - Slow internet and broken fitness center equipment. The real problem though was the aforementioned shower. The water temperature would swing from lukewarm to scalding hot in under a second, with no warning. The time of day didn't seem to matter, and co-workers who were also staying there had the same thing happen to them, so I have to assume this is a problem with the hotel's plumbing. When I reported it to the front desk, the response was "There's nobody on-site today who can look at this - Would you like to change rooms?" I saw no point given what I had heard from my colleagues, and when I explained that to the Front Desk clerk her response was essentially "Oh, well, there's nobody on-site today who can look at this." No apology, and seemingly no concern that multiple guests were reporting a potentially hazardous situation. There are too many other options nearby - I'll choose from one of them next time.

Room Tip: Try a different hotel? If you do book here, request a room on a high floor overlooking the 'garden'.

We loved it. It's a 5 - 10 minute walk from at least 2 different subway lines and is located a short taxi ride away so overall a great location. Also, it's on a quiet side street and if you get a room facing the courtyard/garden it's surprisingly quiet considering you are in the middle of Madrid. We highly reommend this place although note that the showers are basically glass boxes in the middle of the room so that might not be ideal if you have children or are traveling with someone that you wouldn't want to see you in the shower. The bed was extrememly comfortable and we slept incredibly well!

Room Tip: As them for a room that faces the garden or one of the quiet streets (one side is along the main road).

We stayed here in 2009 for three nights and again in the fall of 2012 for a trip to Andalucia. No complaints at all. Rooms are perhaps a bit small but we weren't here to live in a room. Beds are comfortable, hotel and bathrooms clean. Very good location for visiting Prado and other museums, going out at night to tapas bars in Huertas, and, above all, catching trains. It's a short five minute walk to the train station, and so ideal if for departing or arriving from Barcelona, Toledo, Cordoba, Seville, or Malaga. The area is one with lots of small shops but perfectly safe and quite quiet. The hotel has been upgraded since our 2009 stay with a very nice bar for a late night drink. The breakfast is a very good deal, and the hotel itself one of the best deals in Madrid.

We stayed with our two sons (14 and 19) in two rooms for €700 for 3 nights in Feb 2013 taking in the Man Utd v Real match and then exploring Madrid. The Rooms are perfect in businessman style, spotless, very comfortable beds (choice of size). No one spends long in hotel rooms in Madrid! The "see through" shower is probably one of the best we've ever experienced for power, space and water multi-direction. Free wi-fi in the common areas. We didn't have breakfast - €15 Euro too steep, but, this looked functional and aimed at the businessman in a hurry. Staff were excellent and very friendly, including helping with map reading and recommendations. Two big advantages: Access to and from Airport - 5 minutes walk from the Airport Shuttle Bus (€5 per head; 20 mins) at next door Atocha Station ( up the stairs); and If going to a match at Bernebeu, walk to the 27 bus (12 mins away) - recommended by hotel staff member and less crowded the Metro on match days. The Museums are all within easy walking distance, but, Madrid is easily walkable anyway. Never felt unsafe in any of the streets (out till 2:00am) or back lanes of Madrid, though Police were everywhere! Would definitely recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: As usual for many hotels, away from the lifts! Ask for the king-sized bed when booking. Took one star away for cost of breakfast and no free wi-fi in rooms, though these didn't bother us.

I'd spent time in madrid the previous week at the Westin Palace. I was returning to Madrid for just one night as I was catching a train in the morning. The front desk was less than helpful, no concierge, breakfast was a joke, bartender impossible to locate for so long I was 1 minute away from pouring my own drink when he appeared after 30 minutes. Rooms are small, but free wifi. Its whatever. Don't stay longer than 1 night.
