Description: La Casa del Abuelo is one of the Tapas Bars that you can't miss if you visit Madrid. This house is more than 100 years old and it's one of the most representative Taverns in Madrid. Specialities are shrimps in all of its varieties: grilled, with coarse salt and looking for the prefect cooking point and garlic shrimps, served in our terracotta casseroles with virgin olive oil, garlic and parsley. The tradition is to eat the shrimps with the red sweet wine "El Abuelo" that made this house famous. Today everything is served the same way than 100 years ago!

Delicious! The garlic prawns were the best we have ever eaten, so good we had to return the following evening to have them again (and I hate going to the same place twice when there are so many restaurants to try). And the mushrooms were to die for. Quick, friendly service, not cheap, but worth it.

We were there on a hot summers day to have a cold cervesa. We were lucky enough to sit outside and noticed that gambas was the speciality. So when in Madrid do what the Spanish do .... We ordered the butter garlic prawns which were delicious and served piping hot with bread. Reasonably priced as well and definitely worth a visit. In fact they were so great we came back after that day for dinner!!!!

Tried the various branches within a stones throw from each other. The gambas are amazing though incredibly simple but satisfying. The Gazpacho is excellent too.

The gambas al ajillo was the best I've ever had and I like their tinto de verano (summer wine) too but it was on the expensive side for tapas. It was about 9 euros for the garlic shrimp and the shrimp were quite small.

It is one of my favourite tapas restaurants in Madrid but the prices have gone up way too much and the portions shrink every time I go.

A real shame because the food it's really good, but those prices are just getting ridiculous.

I went there a couple of weeks ago on a Saturday night and it was fairly empty, compare to the longs queues there always used to be. I'm really not surprised.

(The same applies to the other restaurant they have in the area, in C\Nuñez del Arce, 5.)
