“Second time in Madrid, revisit a must”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 29, 2014 via mobile

We made a return visit to the restaurant a year later, and it was still good. Think we were spoiled the first time as the portions were massive! This time we enjoyed it. One of the favourites was salmon topped with avocado - lovely.

“Great food, location and setvice.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 27, 2014

Place is great, food is served fast and its very tasty.
Seating at busy hours is a bit unpleasant.

Visited the place twice during a business trip.
Opening hours are comfortable, waitress didn't speak English good enough

“The best Tapas in Plaza Santa Ana”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 24, 2014

Definitely worth a visit and one of the nicest Tapas places in the square. Very busy so book or be prepared to wait a while in the bar...it's worth the wait.

“Nice restaurant - pity about the service”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 17, 2014

Had lunch here last Friday. Lovely decor, nice setting. Met by a woman who directed us to the back of the restaurant - which was full - she wanted us - party of three to squeeze in. If the restaurant was full I could understand but it was not. I asked to sit elsewhere, the woman said to sit in the back. I asked again to put two tables together on the side. She said she was not allowed to do that. So I requested one of the larger tables which she grudgingly agreed to, after she said we might have to share. No problem.

Menus were presented - in English. This was because I spoke English but we all spoke Spanish.
The waiters were pleasant but they just abandoned us.

The food was good, but the owners should realize that there are lots of great restaurants in Madrid and customers do not have to put up with moody service.

“Excellent but not always typical food”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 17, 2014

If this is your first time in Madrid, you're just spending a couple of days and you are not having fun with friends, this is probably not your place. Some of the 'tapas' offered here are typical from Spain. Most are not.
However, if you care for excellent food and wines and you enjoy outdoor sitting on a lovely square in central Madrid, you may appreciate Lateral. I was recently there with my wife and friends the evening. We paid about 16 € each and had got a memorable succesion of tapas such as Iberian Ham with Boletus (Funghi Porcini mushrooms), Spanish (potato) omelette, Salmon and Tuna Sashimi, Fried fresh Artichokes and "Migas con huevo" (egg and breadcrumbs). We had different wines at prices between 2,30 and 3,20 a glass (20 cl.) . Our orders were very promptly taken and quickly served to our table, although the place was completely full at the time.
Anyway, if you go, remember you're sharing a public space, so, mind your bags. People walk among the tables.and you don't know if they want your table or your bag.
