Given that I booked this hotel last minute I received an excellent rate (not sure I would have been equally happy paying full price). As a solo traveler it can at times be hard to find good single room rates so I was pleasantly surprised that this hostel had single rates and even better on arrival finding out it was not a box room. Further it was great to see that staff had considered my request of a room with a balcony and I had nice views onto the street below. Unfortunately the benefit of having a street facing room can become a downside at night as the road is busy til early hours in the morning. Not a problem if you are a night owl like myself but for others it could get too much. Shame that the TV was only Spanish, no satellite channels available. The staff were friendly and relaxed in their approach but do not expect an information desk, which is fine if you are happy being independent. Most of the time there the desk seemed unmanned. Personally this was not a problem for me. The bed quality was slightly on the cheap side but totally acceptable for the rate. Loved the little touches of fresh towels and toiletries available daily. Excellent WiFi. Only downside was that storage rooms were open most of the day, not the prettiest sight and laundry and cleaning trolleys stood in corridors. Maybe I notice these details more running a hotel myself.
I would definitely stay here again. The location to all the sites is a winner.

Room Tip: Room 11 was perfect for single person

Stayed here with my mum in April. Although there was nothing wrong with the hostal, I can't help but recommend staying a little further away from Sol, unless you are going to be out very late or feel like going to the types or bars, cafes and shops which one finds at the urban entertainment precincts in cities all over the world.

It is a good location to explore the city but I think one metro stop in any direction might find more peace. I sleep VERY well usually, but the noise on the street here woke me up and continued until about 6am. (Fri-Sat night) Heavy wooden shutters help but make the room very dark.

Sol is notorious for pick pockets and I would recommend extreme caution, mum got pick-pocketed on the metro or at the station out of her handbag and neither of us noticed a thing. A couple at the next table at the Reina Sofia cafe had something taken during lunch and another group caught someone in the act who then got away.

Hostal itself prima. Clean and tidy if a little tired. Friendly staff and free wifi.

The location is perfect, literally steps away from Puerta del Sol. The room was nice and clean. I found that often there was no one at the reception, so if you had any questions, you had to look elsewhere for assistance. One person working at the reception was friendly and helpful, another less so. Overall, we had a good experience here.

This hostel was perfect because it was in the centre of madrid. Nearly everything was walking distance from this hostel. It is not really a hostel, I would say it is a hotel. The price was very cheap too. Perfect location and internet was there too. The staff was friendly too.

this hostal is one of the best i have stayed at! located center to many bars, restaurants, shops etc. so bare in mind it is a bit noisy but if you are there to experience the city it just adds to the atmosphere ;) staff are very friendly! and make you feel at home on arrival. great value for money, rooms were better then i had expected. and also very easy to find after a day or night out as it is located right by the sol station and square. would definitely stay again and recommend! especially for young couples or travelers.

I want to highlight how good I have felt in Veracruz hotel recently. Last week I spent some days in the capital city. I got shocked when I realized that my bedroom was not noisy at all; the room was trendy decorated giving a calm and quite atmosphere; and the most important, my large bathroom was totally clean and the cleaners kept it in this way daily as well as the whole bedroom. The staff helped me kindly and explained me landmarks, and they also recommened me some great restaurants in the heart of Spain. Thank you very much for helping me and advicing so well!! Unforgetable experienced! Experienced travellers should go there and they will notice you do not have to pay a lot to have good service!! See you soon, Veracruz II hotel!!

First of all, the hostal is located in the midst of many stores, bars and restaurants, so needless to say, it is a bit noisy. Personally, I love the constant chatter and music throughout the day and night, but if you prefer to have a quiet night, I might suggest you stay elsewhere. The staff are incredibly friendly and accommodating. They give you a map and help you find all the points of interest throughout Madrid. The hostal is on the 3rd floor but the elevators worked perfectly (although they are a bit on the small side).
I stayed in a single room and it was wonderful! The room and bathroom were immaculate thanks to the attention of the housekeeping and staff. The room prices were great and very budget friendly. I would definitely suggest staying at Hostal Veracruz if you want to be close to all the action and entertainment in Madrid.

Room Tip: The rooms with a balcony have wonderful views, however they are the noisiest.
