I stayed in the Hostal for 2 nights in Madrid. Its centrally located in the Sol area (the most busstling part of town) and is a mere 100 meters from the Metro station. The staff were helpfull and courteous but could not speak much English. The rooms were small but very comfortable and not noisy at all. People looking to avoid the hassle of travelling to the centre of town and not looking for super luxury - this is the place for you. Its located very near most tourist attractions.

Room Tip: Try getting a room which does not face the street to avoid noise

Just back from a trip to Spain that started with two nights at Hostal Santa Cruz. Excellent location right off Puerta del Sol and close to Plaza Mayor. Only a few minutes walk to the metro. Rooms were clean and efficient, bathroom was clean as well. Free wifi in the lobby did extend into our room so that was a perk. I'd recommend it as a place to stay - can't beat the price either!

Just back from three nights at Hostal Santa Cruz . . . bang in middle of town between Sol and Plaza Mayor, lovely clean rooms, on the small side, but for 57 Euros a night you can't argue with the location, and rooms with tv, safe, decent shower, etc. Would definitely stay there again. It is surrounded by bars and restaurants all within metres.

I just returned from a trip to Spain. I travel on a tight budget and this was the best hotel I stayed at in Spain. Helpful staff, free wi-fi in the lobby (doesn't work in rooms), clean rooms, a location that can't be beat, next to Plaza Mayor and in the middle of the old city. Rooms are small but for the price one can't complain.

I would happily stay at Hostal Santa Cruz again and definitely recommend it to others. My room was compact, but had everything you could need (including a balcony, a safe box, an air conditioner, and a tv, which you won't need because there's too much to do in Madrid!). Everything was clean and well kept, and I felt very safe there. The staff was very kind and helpful (though if you don't speak Spanish - and I don't really - you'll have to improvise); the only thing that seemed a bit quirky was that there's often not someone at the front desk and so you might need to knock on the office door down the hall if you need help. Oh and the phone in my room was broken, but apparently that was only my room (#5). This place is also really well located in its own charming square, which is lively and near everything, including Plaza Mayor, which is less than a minute away and is a much larger (and noisier!) square with lots of activity.
