“Wow! We loved this hotel!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 17, 2013

What a value!
Hotel is near Madrid airport with free shuttle to airport.
This is one clean place! Great value....the rain shower is fantastic!
They thought of everything...airport shuttle, computer lounge, even toothbrush and toothpaste.
My friends marveled at the modern look of the hotel, and at check-in, the concierge was multilingual and gave us a map and explained how to get back to the hotel after turning in our rental car.
Didn't try the bar or food, but felt luxurious, wishing we could have slept there longer instead of rushing to the airport!

It is an airport hotel. Thats it. No good for tourism stays because it is far away from Madrid and there is nothing around.
Rooms are big and nice, very new and clean. Quads are big and the extra beds are good bunks with good matresses. The bathroom is wonderful, loved the shower!
I dont give 5 stars because of the transfer service. We had problems last time because they said we didnt book it and it wasnt true. They wanted us to wait 30min to go to the airport and I had to complain and make them responsible if I had any trouble catching my plane. At the end, suddenly, there were two seats available.
The recepcionist was rude and not nice at all and I didnt like it.
I will stay again but I will ask them to give me a copy of my transfer petition (free by the way)

No complaints, issues or concerns with this hotel. Clean, very modern looking......HUUUGE room! Service efficient and reliable. Close to a shopping centre where we went for a quick bite in the evening rather than heading off somewhere by taxi; the hotel is perfectly situated for quick arrival to barajas airport so its not anywhere near the centre of madrid or anything else really! Typical site for an airport hotel. Free regular shuttle to and form the airport and a taxi for la atocha airport cost €20(ish). Very cost effective Hotel would recommend.

The Axor Barajas is a modern, functional hotel located on an Industrial Estate near Madrid, so for that reason alone I'd suggest it's ideal for work or a brief airport stop over rather than for leisure purposes. If it's a nice leisurely break you're after, you can skip this review and concentrate your efforts on sourcing a different hotel.

For those business travellers, (or nosey people who wanted to read on anyway), the Barajas is located next door to it's sister hotel, the Axor Feria, & having stayed at both hotels for work purposes, I can confirm that the Barajas is the better option. You can grab a Taxi from the airport for about Euro 20, or get the free airport to hotel shuttle bus that stops outside.

The lobby is modern and spacious, and the hotel concentrates it minimalist decor around white, black and orange. You are given the wifi code upon arrival and it is free throughout the hotel. In the lobby area, there are plenty of power sockets for us iPhone users who drain our batteries within 20 minutes of landing on any trip, so you can set up at a table with your laptop and phone plugged in and press the service bell when you want any drinks brought over by the bar staff.

The hotel rooms are airy and light with plenty of space, and the bathroom has a fantastic power shower. Beds are comfortable and large. You'll get a good night's sleep here.

The breakfast selection leaves a bit to be desired if you like to eat healthily. If you're a fan of cake, pastries or toast for breakfast then fill your face. Be prepared to be driven mad by the whistling toaster too as you eat. I've only dined here in the evening once, but I do recommend the seared tuna.

If you're British, bring a travel kettle. The Spanish do not appear to understand the trauma they inflict on British tea drinkers by not putting a kettle in the room as standard. Best bring a mug too. Oh, and some teabags....and milk.

All in all, a perfectly fine hotel for business. More of a 3* really. Cannot possibly agree to 4* if you're not going to give me a kettle!

Having read the other reviews, let me put things in perspective for the TA readers:
The hotel is new so by definition things are clean, light etc.
It is not in the town of Barajas itself (which is the Madrid airport town) but further away so you have to rely on the shutttle bus or pay a taxi. It is also further away from Madrid.
Functionally you cannot fault the hotel but it lacks character, there is nothing endearing about it and the quality of the food in the restaurant is mediocre.
There is nothing to do in the area (offices and some residentia lbuildings plud a shopping mall) so not easy to understand who would stay here. Even for an airport lay-over or early flight the next daythere are better options closer to the airport (even though it is true that it is not very far from the airport - perhaps15 minutes by shuttle bus instead of 5 with the other hotels such as the Melia Barajas or the Hilton).
Beds are good as are the bathrooms (but again: in a newly built modern hotel that is normal) but 4 stars is a ystery to me: they do not even provide coffee and teaf facilities in the standard rooms.
Not a place I will come back to because thankfully we still have a good choice in Madrid. Nothing unpleasant but boring is the word that sums it up.

Every year I'm going to a travel show (Ifema) in Madrid, so this time I picked Axor Barajas. Hotel is beautiful and the rooms look good and are comfortable. Transfers are arranged from the airport and back.
Some things that were a bit disappointing:
Room was not ready on the moment of arrival at 13:00, had to wait 30 min.
Very few restaurants in the neighborhood unless you take a taxi
Not close to any underground (Metro)
The gym area is a joke, with 2 cycle machines, a cross-trainer and some dumbbells...especially looking at the capacity of the hotel.
