Quiet place and not expensive at all. Bathrooms are shared but they are always very clean. We loved it so much that decided to stay another night. Is walking distance from all the good places in Madrid like Plaza Mayor, Plaza del Sol, El Mercadillo de San Miguel, ect.

Room tip: Ask for a room in front of a bathroom.

Hostal Nersan is a bare bones immaculately clean, out of the way on a side street but wonderfully close to Plaza de Espana, Gran Via, Plaza del Sol and Plaza de Santo Domingo pensione. You get a small bedroom, very small bath, TV on the fourth floor of a formerly seemingly elegant apartment building. If you want convenient close in, clean, extremely economical place to stay then Hostal Nersan 2 is a very good bet. We used this pensione before and after our trip to Costa del Sol staying 3 days before and 1 day after during out stay in Espana.

Room tip: Ask for a non-street room.

Stayed this weekend and this place must have been totally redone since the previous reviews. We stayed in a twin room, but had a peek into other rooms as they weren't all occupied and they are all modern and nicely decorated and each has their own bathroom. It is located on the fourth floor of an apartment building on a quiet side street between two Japanese restaurants, you just buzz up to the hotel when you arrive. The owner speaks no English but was extremely patient with our terrible Spanish and always very friendly. You are given keys and can come and go as you please. There is free wifi which came in handy. The only downsides were the following:
- The check out time is 12 and check in was from 12.30. Unsurprisingly they were still cleaning the room when we arrived promptly at 12.30, but they let us freshen up and when we came back from lunch at 2 it was all ready for us
- There was only 1 plug socket in the room which was not by the mirror, but there were 2 in the bathroom which we also used
- There was a rail to hang some clothes on but no drawers or wardrobe

Overall the price was brilliant for such a lovely, comfortable, centrally located room and I would definitely stay here again and recommend it to friends.

Upon arrival in Madrid, it was extremely difficult to find Hostal Nersan. There is no sign outside the hostel or anything else to indicate where it is located. The staff was less than helpful and was never available. However, the hostel was very clean, had hot water and wifi, and provided towels. Also, there is no common area which was disappointing. Would not recommend.

Considering location and price this hostel is a great choice.... Metro is very close so you can travel for a longer distance... It was good for us as we spent the days out to see sightseeings and came back in the night just for sleeping. The nearest food shops, restaurants, and also chinesse restaurants and shops are available. Nice staff, just did not speak english much.
