Dined last night with friends in the beautiful terrace which was a great setting but felt overcrowded. Order taken by a young maitre d’ who had a very arrogant attitude and made us feel like we didn’t belong there with his sarcastic remarks. Service was totally disjointed, too many staff involved in serving us and a cheeky waiter opened (and charged) for a second bottle of Italian mineral water without asking us! We had mero carpaccio which lacked seasoning but the burrata was the highlight, it was just divine. For mains we had the pasta with mushrooms “in wheel of Pecorino” but to our surprise it was served on a cold pasta bowl. When asked for additional Parmesan cheese to give more flavour we were given a nasty look like we didn’t have savoir faire. Be warned smoking is allowed here and you will dine amongst smokers some even having cigars! The place was full of corporate businessmen in suits, footballers ex-wives type and high class Instagram girls taking selfies around the congested garden. When we paid, the waiter took the bill and didn’t return the change, pure day light robbery, this place doesn’t have scruples and believe it’s right to make profit with their hidden “tactics”. Food was nothing to write home about and with so many better places in Madrid we won’t visit again.

The good: nice ambience (horrid smokers aside) and beautiful setting on the terrace.

Burrata probably the best I’ve tasted. Pasta dishes OK, if a little too al dente (and I like it al dente).

The bad: the staff all blurred into one (in a bad way) and impossible to tell who was looking after us. And at these prices that’s just plain wrong.

The ugly: the snootiness of the maître d' was pretty epic. He smiled, often, but only when chatting with the staff, and never in front of customers.

Not so much as a ‘ciao’ from anyone as we left.

If this is the sort of experience you enjoy (at a pretty hefty price tag), fill your boots.

A beautiful italian restaurant on Barrio Salamanca on Velazquez Ave # 18
It’s a large place but for me the most beautiful area to seat specially at night is at the garden on the back but remember to make a reservation and specify where you would like to seat.
The food is excellent; for aperitif we had Stracciatella and for main course a Lobster Tagliatelle and my wife had Tagliatelle Carbonara Classic , both were excellent and we also had a bottle of Pinot Grillo St Marguerite.
We didn’t have dessert because it was enough food for us just a couple of small cortado coffee
We also had a bottle of still water with ice
The price per person was 63 €
Good price for the excellent food and beautiful place

Attending the European Champions League Final, we stopped by Pompilio for a late dinner, having been highly been recommended to same by local friends.

It’s a large restaurant with lots of different sections – being a balmy night, we were seated outside in the garden. All promising to begin with.

From the extensive menu, we selected burrata, caponata, asparagus, carpaccio, carabinero, languistine, calabacin, fettuccini, steak tartare, rodaballo pistachio and someone had escalopines.

We drank JW Black (€18), various soft drinks, mixed waters and coffees.

Being a busy night, the service was erratic, orders arriving uncoordinated; all in all an unnecessarily long wait.

The food itself is very ordinary and does not meet expectation. I guess it had been a long day, so we were pretty tired to begin with, which didn’t improve as the evening wore on.

The bill came to €450. We added a gratuity. Very expensive for what it is. We would not consider returning.
