Spent 3 nights with friends in Madrid and used this convenient hotel as a base. Very clean and friendly helpful staff. The only downside I would say was the bedroom seemed to be over the metro system and the rumbling of the trains could be heard. The laminate flooring didn't help either as people coming in during the early hours or leaving at 6.30 in the morning could be heard clip clopping along the passageways. The idea of breakfast tokens is a bit different but allowed us to visit more than one cafe during our stay. Overall very handy and value for money.

For the record, this is a small guest house and not a hostel as one might initially think.

Recently spent 4 nights at this hotel with my son and was really impressed by the whole experience. About a week before our arrival, the hostal sent me an email with details of useful numbers and transportation options including directions of how to get to the hostal. They also attached a metro map and another map with all the tourist attractions as well! I have stayed at 3 and 4 star hotels in the past and they have never contacted me before arrival so I was very impressed!!

We arrived late in the evening and received a warm welcome. Our room was spacious enough for two people and was extremely clean. The room is exactly as shown on their website and we even had a small balcony. The bathroom was small with a small shower cubicle but it was clean and toiletries were provided. The room was very warm and we also had an open closet for hanging our clothes. The room was cleaned daily upon request and they would change towels as well if you so wish. If you did not want to be disturbed, you only had to hang the do not disturb sign on the door knob. On the first morning, we were given 2 breakfast vouchers free which we used at the cafe next door and we paid 2 euros & 50 cents per person for breakfast for the other days. The staff were very friendly, provided an attraction map and additional information regarding free tours etc.

The hostal is located a few metres from Noviciado metro, which is very convenient for connecting other lines on the metro. It is in a large building which is shared by other hostels as well but it is well signposted. It is as good as a 3 star hotel and I would not hesitate to stay here again and would recommend it to friends and family visiting Madrid.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the back instead of one facing the main road.

At arrival we were surprised with a free (little) bottle of champagne, chocolates and a coupon of a free first breakfast a few meters from the hostal. For the other days Ojala, walking down the street directly opposite of the hostal, is a good option with a terrace in the sun and different non-Spanish breakfast options.

The hostal is very modern decorated with good working free wifi. You get new towels and shampoo when placing the sign 'please clean my room'. You can loan a hair dryer at the reception. Overall it is very clean and the service superb.

Although the hostal scores very well and can be compared to a regular hotel on service and cleanliness, there are some attention points. As can be seen from the pictures the shower is modern but also small. For people that have 'mobility issues’ this can be a problem. Also the shower is not always that stable in the temperature of the water. The bed is not really a two-person bed but more of a 1.5 bed, in Dutch called a 'twijfelaar'. But the issue that was mentioned 'the metro noise' was not present in our room. So this may be room specific?

The location is very good. It is very close to the metro station 'noviciado', which has a connection with three metro lines. Also the grand via is within walking distance. Overall a good choice base on price/quality

Fantastic 3 nights in Hostal Abel.
The Hotel is located right next to a metro, but in our three days we were able to easily just walk the city. The Hotel is located about a 15 minute walk from everything you want to see in Madrid.
Great value for the money. Clean rooms, small but more than enough room. Champagne upon arrival. Friendly staff, available for any questions regarding Madrid. Free breakfast in a nearby restaurant for one morning. Stayed in January, so there weren't many other guests. The room was warm enough that we didnt need to turn on the heat but a bit too warm that we needed to keep the window ajar at night. The noise from the street outside at night could keep one awake for a bit, but also gives you an idea of Madrids great night life. If you think the noise will really bother you from the street request a room without a street view.

Was a bit concerned when I walked down the St and saw graffiti but was a great, secure location, rooms were clean and spacious (for the room type). The towel folded into an elephant was such a cute touch.

This hostal larger than it might seem- it's got about 20 rooms I think. It is conveniently located, and offers good value. Everything is pretty new and very clean, and the service was good- the woman at the reception was looking up opening times, etc. for us online without us even asking.
