“Great Airport Hotel”
Reviewed July 24, 2012

We stayed at the Maydrit Hotel twice as we flew out and back into Madrid. The hotel is on the metro and was easy to get to from the Madrid Chamartin Train Station. The rooms are large, very modern with nice furnishings and bathrooms. We found the staff quite helpful and friendly and the airport shuttle worked great. We took the subway into the city center of Madrid for dinner and it was about a 30 minute ride. The hotel has a restaurant where they lay out a great breakfast - possibly the best hotel breakfast I have had in Spain. The only other restaurant we saw in the area was a Chinese restaurant across the street. For a visit to Madrid, you should look for a better located hotel but for that night after you fly in or before you fly out the Maydrit Hotel is a great choice and reasonably priced.

Room Tip: The hotel building comes to a point. The rooms at the point have more windows and interesting floor...

Stayed here for two nights at the end of our three-week trip to Spain, based largely on other reviews and price. We wanted to be near the airport, but this ended up being a 20 euro cab ride away. (Our cab driver had no idea where the hotel was and had never heard of it, so make sure you have the address handy.) The hotel's airport shuttle only runs for certain limited hours in the morning and in the evening, so we were unable to use it. We would have been better off staying in the city near the metro line (this hotel is very close to a metro stop, which is conveninet for going into the city, but the line does not go to the airport). It's about a 20-30 minute metro ride into the city centre.

Service here was terrible! It is definitely not a four-star hotel, as it claims to be. For instance, we called the front desk for the WiFi password, and they promised to call us back but never did. The people at the front desk were not friendly at all (and my husband speaks fluent Spanish). We were reluctant to ask for help because of the poor attitude of the front desk staff, and often when we passed through the lobby there was no one even there.

The pool outside is pretty sad - a few cheap lounge chairs and a small pool. The hotel has a restaurant but appeared very overpriced for what it was, so we never ate there. There are not a lot of options for meals within walking distance, but we did find a small cafe/bar and a Chinese restaurant.

The bed was fairly comfortable, but the bathroom floor was dirty with hairs and mold. I would not stay here again - price is ok, but it's not that convenient to the airport unless you happen to be traveling during the limited hours that the shuttle runs.

We chose this hotel because it was our last night in Madrid and wanted to be close to the airport with the convenience of a free shuttle to catch our early flight. The rooms were very clean and modern. The pool was small but also great and the lounge area around the pool was awesome. Things took a nosedive when we opted to eat at the restaurant which was overpriced and the food was mediocre at best then they tried charging us for 5 bottles of wine (we'd only had 2). We asked about getting coffee in the morning and they informed us the restaurant didn't open until 7 AM (when we were leaving) which was no big deal but then she went on to tell us that that had we purchased the breakfast option they would've prepared us a cup to go. Really? If we had paid 14 Euro per person they would've made the extra effort to pour some coffee in a to go cup? She was very condescending especially when you consider that this was the only hotel we'd stayed at in Europe that didn't offer free coffee either in the room or at their restaurant. Regardless, if you choose to stay avoid the hotel restaurant, there's a decent one across the road that was very reasonably priced and tasty and bring your own coffee!

We stayed at the Maydrit on our last night in Madrid. This is a modern hotel with very spacious rooms and the most comfortable beds we experienced in Spain. It is spotless with a big bathroom. It is a well priced hotel and while what we paid did not include breakfast, we paid 7 Euros each for a comprehensive breakfast buffet which was the cheapest we paid for a breakfast in any of the hotels we stayed.
The hotel staff is friendly, welcoming, and helpful.

The hotel is located in what looked like a residential area with some office buildings. There are limited places to eat around. The hotel has a nice looking restaurant, but most of the food is American style (burger, turkey sandwiches, etc) which is not what we were looking for. There is one Chinese restaurant around the corner and a small local bar.

The Metro is two short blocks from the hotel and the ride is 30 minute to the center of town (Opera or Sol stations). Therefore, I would not recommend staying here if you are on vacation and looking to spend time visiting the city. It might be better if you are on a business trip or catching a flight. If you are catching a flight, be aware (as others stated) that the free shuttle runs every 30 minutes during two time windows during the day.

I thought it was a nice touch that when we arrived the concierge greeted me by name. I now believe that that was more likely down to being the only booking, he was very helpfu l if somewhat apologetic. We chose the hotel because of its proximity to the airport, the airport transfers, a pool to relax at on our last day- great idea!

The hotel is in the Baracas suburb of madrid close to the tube if you know which way to get out. the hotel is clean and modern which looks good on arrival. when we arrive we were told that that we cannot get a transfer as they start later in the day and that breakfast would only start at nine because of the public holiday so that was out the window...

the pool (as you see pictured) is only open from July to August, we had hoped to sit on the comfortable loungers pictured so that we could catch some last rays but sadly the Basil Fawlty style barmen insisted we couldnt even sit in the sun and instead directed us to the metal chairs which had a view of the wasteground opposite and the graffitti.

It was hugely dissapointing. for the cost of then having to get a taxi, youd be as well to stay at the actual airport hotels, would recommend the place to noone...

Room Tip: Dont expect a swim or a transfer !

Hotel Maydrit was quiet, peaceful and nice. It wasn't a far commute to anywhere honestly and the rooms were spectacular, for the most part. Hotel Maydrit is off the beaten path, so, it is a little confusing to get to the first time or so, but you work it out and it becomes easier to find each time.
They have a great breakfast array that is included but the dining room isn't a large one, so, if can be fairly crowded in the later morning part for dining. THe selections were pretty standard, yet good.
There is a Chinese restaurant across the street we checked out and we *heart* it. The owners and staff were so nice and warm, that was our experience with them, they treated us great!
There is like four playgrounds near each end of the hotel, all dedicated by age and was something for your kids to do besides the walk and view. There is also a commercial center across the way that is huge and has just about the basics plus more, and Mercadona.
Our room was clean, bright, white, very corporate-like and a decent size. The television had no English channels even though it stated it did, couldn't figure that part out and normally we always do...Everything was glass, so, with my 3 year old it was party-time for her (mouth on the glass, hand prints, kisses, etc. The usual), so on that note, not kid-proof, not sure if kid-friendly but we made it work. We were there for a week on business and pleasure!
***Madrid has fake police that try to scam tourists by asking to see your passport or something like that, we got approach by the worse looking-fake-police I've seen. He actually was scared of me when I started asking him to show HIS identity and the sped off. This took place Directly in front of our hotel, I told the man at the desk and he said that is normal and took note.*** Be wise people.
Besides that the stay was great! No fancy views, but quiet and peaceful. Can get extremely crowded, OH, forgot to mention the pool, which wasn't open yet :-( But I would, maybe go back if it was just me and my husband...
