“What happened to the high tech?”
Reviewed October 15, 2013

I selected this hotel amongst others of its class because of its location. The hotel belongs to the HT hotel chain. While the location was really great, the HT part needed some work. Wifi kept dropping and the AC system did too, turning on and off every 15 secs so it had to be turned off. While the rooms have a modern look, They need some improvement: the mattress sagged on one side, the carpets were very dirty. Staff at reception upon arrival was not helpful. I had reserved a double bed non-smoking room but they tried to give me something else in a room facing a wall when there were plenty of other options. It wasn't until it was clear I was going to look for another hotel that they "found" the type of room I reserved.

Room Tip: Make sure you get a room facing the street even if noisier. Otherwise its like being in a cave.

This hotel was a good price but the staff at reception were not the best. The rooms were fine, clean etc but you could hear people in the hallway when in your room. IT was close the Plaza Mayor (2 minute walk!) which was awesome and for our family of four it suited our 2 day trip fine. I would recommend asking someone where it is before you get there as the frontage is tiny and hard to spot when you are driving around. Park in the parking under Plaza Mayor then go for a walk to find the place - asking a shop person on your way. The breakfast was pretty ordinary so eat out - nice cafe across the street and a great market with fruit and heaps of tapas!

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a balcony - view is good!

Petit Palace Mayor - This is hotel is literally across the street from Mercado San Miguel and Plaza Mayor. We had an interior room and with the window closed we really could not hear any outside noises. The other people coming and going on our floor, and closing their doors was a little loud though. As others have said the carpets were stained, I don't believe they were dirty, just old and grungy. The shower door is clear glass for the most part so if you wake up and turn on the bathroom light it does shine into the whole room which is a bummer. The bed and pillows may not be the best we have ever slept on either. Those are the negatives, now for the positives. As mentioned earlier the location is fantastic. We walked to virtually everything we did in Madrid as this hotel is right in the middle of the old town. The price with a buffet breakfast included, wi-fi, and a laptop in the room to use is really fantastic. The people who cleaned the room were great; the front desk people were exemplary. We asked them for an additional pillow since they really weren't that great. Within 10 minutes someone was at our door with another
pillow, still no better though, but they tried. The laptop in the room had a few keys that did not work, and I asked if they had a replacement and he said he would look, this was a Sunday evening, and when we came back from dinner a few hours later a new one was in the room. I think for the location, price, employees, and the little extras this place is a great value and as long as the negatives are not a concern for you personally, you really cannot go wrong with this hotel.

Brilliant location. 1 minute from Plaza Mayor & San Miguel market, 5 minutes from Puerta Del Sol, 10 minutes from the famous Gran Via, 10 minutes from the Opera house & Royal palace. Could not think of a better location. Great front desk staff, very helpful. Good food. The only drawback is there is no lobby, but it is not a major handicap for most travelers who leave the hotel in the morning and come back at night to sleep. The little Carrefour shop on the ground floor is very convenient, get your water there, it is way too expensive to buy on the streets. The hotel could use some new carpets. Overall very good. Would stay there again when in Madrid. Well done guys, keep up the good work.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a bigger bed. They are not all the same

The location of this hotel is so close to the San Miguel market you can almost taste the food--great. It is right in the middle of things-great location.Plenty of great drinking and eating places around. Very central -10 mins by taxi from all the art museums, which must be seen. The hotel itself is pleasant, clean, all staff very helpful -and attempting to be very modern.
The room we had was like an IKEA show room, including lap top--no problems with it but needs a bit more storage space. Breakfast good, plenty of choice-but get a new toaster! It took so long to do its work!

Will certainly be back and recommend to anyone.

Room Tip: We were at back of hotel--very quiet. Think the front overlooking bars etc would be less quiet altho...

Hotel Petit Palace Mayor,
I choose this hotel for its location, and I wasn’t wrong…. Last time I was in Madrid I thought it would be a good idea to be close to the San Miguel Market where there is so much action and good food to choose from. This time though, I realized I did not like so much fighting to get the food, fighting to get a seat, no time for talk, (while one is looking for some food the other is holding the table) so at the end everyone eats alone. The prices were higher than other places where you can seat and get served and enjoy a more relaxed meal. So for me it’s nice to go and you should not miss it: ONCE!
Everyone is different. What’s important for someone may not be important at all for someone else. I travel with a member of the family that is very sensitive to noises. This Hotel was not for him. When we got there he was happy he got an interior room, because street noise wasn’t going to be an issue! (For me was a dreary dark place). Well, the corridor noises can be heard in the rooms so loud! People don’t realize it and they talk and scream and doors get slammed until late and from 5:00 am noises didn’t stop!
Bathrooms are great design, modern and minimalist with great showers but I wished it had a soft light to light at night so you don’t get awakened… Small details and good front desk people (which this Hotel does have) make big Hotels…The rooms are small but funky and I do like the style….
What for me was disappointing was the lack of cleanliness on the carpets, they have to go! And the internet service has to improve… other than that- location allows them to get away with all he flaws.

Room Tip: Mine was looking to the back, noise was bearable.

Petit Palace Mayor Plaza is a modern and new/renovated hotel, well located: less than 1 minute walk to Plaza Mayor and Mercado, 5min walk to Opera and Sol metro stations, 5 min walk to Puerta del sol, 10min walk to Gran Via shopping area and touristic place.
It's a clean hotel and the staff is helpful. Breakfast is good. You get what you pay for.
Wifi is good. They even offer you a laptop in the room with wired internet connection.
Safe box is for free. The room is spacious. All toilet amenities are provided.
Negative points:
-The glass bathroom door is almost transparent and not really practical/private.
-The lobby is small
-They had a problem with hot water but they gave us the possibility to go to another petit palace hotel 5min walk from ours to take shower (they offered a room and we could even change hotels - at their charge)
-Through booking.com, we ordered a room in higher floor but didn't get it.
I think Petit Palace is a very nice 4* hotel at very affordable rates, I recommend it and I will definitely stay there again.
