“Great hotel!!!!”
Reviewed July 31, 2013

Easy to find, just off the Gran Via (take the road next to Pans & Co). Super clean and the room was more than adequate size for two people. Requested a lower floor room with balcony and got exactly what we asked for. Other reviews said the street was noisy. We did not find this to be true AT ALL!!! The only noise came from the cleaner at around 10am moving furniture around in other rooms. Kind of annoying but tolerable. The air-con was a godsend. Staff were all friendly and helpful. WiFi was excellent (and free) and only dropped out occasionally during peak times. We walked everywhere in Madrid due to the great location of the hotel. The roads surrounding it (barco etc) have some lovely tabernas too. Would 100% recommend this hotel as well as stay here again.

My wife and I stayed here for three nights. I'd probably give this a better rating than average except for two things:

1. Two nights were quite noisy, one was due to street noise (Saturday night), the second night we had very noisy neighbours,we could here a lot of intimate stuff (groans e.t.c), the walls must be pretty thin.
2. There was some mould in the bathroom, my wife is very fussy about this.

When we complained about the noise the hotel did offer to move us however I opted to stay in the same room as the alternative room was quite small. My wife would have preferred to move as the alternative room's bathroom didn't have any mould. The last night was very quite and we both slept well.

The location is convenient though the area is a bit seedy, there's quite a few prostitutes hanging around in the street nearby. The staff were polite and helpful and the room itself was clean and quite spacious.

Room Tip: If you stay on a Saturday night ask for a room that doesn't face the street.

Hostal Ballesta was conveniently located a few blocks away from Gran via making it very easy to go in and out! Make sure that you have clear directions on how to get there since the roads are tiny and the hostal blends in. This is a hostal so keep in mind you will not be staying in a hotel.

Service was great from the front desk staff and the hostal is in great shape with basic necesities. The handsoap is surprisingly good!!

As a note, the elevator is tiny so keep in mind when packing your luggage. Dont be surprised to see prostitues around the corner and the streets nearby. They may look a little intimidating but dont do any harm.

Overall, I would definitely stay here again and would recomend it.

Very good located. 1 min walk from Gran Via, very close from metro station and 10-15 min walk to Plaza Mayor, and 5 min walk from the other main shopping street. The room was clean and the staff very helpful. Ask them for non touristic restaurants, they will provide you little tapas-bar restaurants where they are not used to tourists.
They are some prostitutes down the street, but they wont disturb you.
However i would not pay the price which is displayed for 1 single room, even it s well located. I got my room through a discount website with great discount.

Room Tip: If you have light sleep (which is not my case), avoid any rooms which share the wall with the elevat...

Very good price in the center of Madrid! Even prostitutes in this street wasn't case of any problem. In real, it was a little bit funny :) We loved the rooms and bathrooms are so nice! Friendly staff!
