Beautiful little historic cemetery tucked away in quiet corner at the far end of Main Street. Beautifully maintained by Gibraltar Historical Society. Lots of history from Battle of Trafalgar

The cemetery is very well tended and the plants complement the ambience. Very moving when reading some of the headstones.

I love this place as it's so full of history, not only from Trafalgar but it's military occupation for decades before, lovely setting

A cemetery for soldiers and their families - many died after the Battle of Trafalgar. It is interesting to look at the dates and see the ones who died shortly after, obviously of wounds from this and other Battles. Others died from plagues and other sicknesses - many were very young men. Most of the graves are those of soldiers but there are a few graves of babies, young children, and women, as well as men who were engaged in service to the military and their families. It becomes a great place to think about the young men who left Britain and died far from home. Some of their families must have stayed in Gibralta and are the ancestestors of present day Gibraltarians. There is so much history in the cemetery. A few information boards give some insight. A few inscriptions from grave stones have been preserved, A few can still easily be read. Hopefully somewhere there is information about all buried here.

This is one place where the whole history of Gibraltar has some meaning, especially if you are familiar with one of the regiments that mounted the Siege or had a relative at the Battle of Trafalgar.
