Have just returned from a 3 night stay at the Rock Hotel. Food was very good and staff very helpful and friendly, Rooms are extremely clean, bed very comfortable, with the view from the balcony to die for, especially the sunsets over Spain, great views of all going on in the harbour, and towards Africa. Hopefully will return next year.
A special mention and thanks to Teshfin for his information on the Rock, what to see etc, great person to have a conversation with, and great service in restaurant and bar area, and made our stay very special. Many thanks

Room tip: The hotel is a very steep climb from the town, but a bus passes the front, and taxis are in good supply

This is a lovely hotel. The bar, restaurant and rooms are all beautifully decorated. All the staff were very friendly and helpful.

We didn’t eat in the restaurant in the evening but we did have a couple of bar snacks which were fine and we had a drink at the bar most evenings - service is relaxed but friendly (and worryingly generous measures on the spirits!). The overall room bill at the end of our stay was surprisingly small so clearly good value!

Breakfast was very good with a nice range of options.

Our room (with balcony) was smallish but well laid out and looked like it had been recently redecorated. There was plenty of storage and a small fridge. The room safe is big enough for an iPad or small laptop.

There are a few things however that were less than perfect:

When we arrived air conditioning was available, but on the second night the whole hotel had the air conditioning switched off and replaced with heating. The temperature was really quite warm and given that all the windows face west, by evening it was really quite stifling in the room. The suggestion from staff was to sleep with the balcony door ajar but this wasn’t very practical as there is quite a lot of noise from Europa Road and the port.

The mattresses are not very good at all. Unlike others we had no problem with how firm the mattress was but it was very “springy” so if your other half turns over in the night you will wake up.

Finally on our last night we acquired some very loud neighbours. I’m not sure whether previously we had been lucky to have quieter people in the room next door or whether the chap in question was genuinely shouting at the top of his voice (in which case it’s hardly the hotel’s fault!) but at 6.30 am I could hear every word of an interminable conversation he was having...

Had a wonderful 3 night stay. Staff were attentive and welcoming. Great food in the restaurant and lovely wines.

Beds are hard but ask for a mattress topper.

Near to Main Street, cable car and Botanical Gardens.

We very much enjoyed our one night stay here. We walked from the airport to the hotel in under 30 minutes. It was an easy walk until the last 100 metres which is up a steep hill. The walk is ok with light hand-luggage when it’s not too hot otherwise I think a taxi would be preferable.

Check in was friendly and efficient. Our room was large enough and a small balcony with good views across the bay to the Spanish mainland. Decor is the room was somewhat bland but neat and clean. Large bathroom with just a shower.

We had dinner at the restaurant which was excellent. Good quality food at a sensible price with good service. We ate out on the terrace which was good in October. Very nice bar for afternoon and evening drinks as well.

Nice pool area which across the road from the hotel.

Overall we’d recommend this for a few nights in Gibraltar.

We went to the Rock Hotel to celebrate a 60th birthday. We arrived at the hotel at 11 as we had an early flight from the uk but we couldn't have our room til 2 which was a bit of a pain but we were told to leave our bags and when we got back to the hotel our bag was in the room. The room was a nice size with a double bed, an armchair, plenty of cupboard space, a nice size bathroom with a walk in shower. It had a bkacony door leading to a decent size balcony which looked out over the bay of Gibraltar. The room has a safe and air conditioning. The bed was very comfortable and roomy.
Breakfast was buffet style but was excellent. You could have anything from a full English to a continental breakfast, you never left there hungry.
There is a pool across the road from the hotel which we didn't use as the weather was not great whilst we were there.
The staff are friendly but didn't appreciate being woken one morning at 10 to 9 by the chambermaid to clean the room.
The hotel is on a rather step hill so walking back from the town we needed gas and air by the time we got back.
The hotel is very classy and classic and if we returned to Gibraltar we would definetly stay there again.
