“Monkey Business!!”
Reviewed August 2, 2013

You must go visit the apes den when in Gibraltar, although saying that, you don't really have to go all the way up the Rock to see them! They are such cheeky things that they can be found almost anywhere. There are several "packs" and they move around so you can see them by the Catalan Bay area, Rock Hotel, by Casemates Square, Trafalgar had one even outside my window by Europa point! They are very very clever and they know when tourists are around so they come down. They are attracted by food and this is why they come to town - even though they are adequately fed by their keepers, the taxi drivers during the years, have been coaxing them with treats for the tourists benefits - so now of course, they know they just have to go looking for tourists. But beware, yes they are cute, funny and friendly but they are wild animals - which people often forget and they can bite! Just do not feed them or carry plastic bags (which they might think contain food) because they will snatch them! These apes are a very big part of Gibraltar and an icon for Gibraltarians and that's why they are loved so much.

“Lock up your possessions!”
Reviewed July 30, 2013

Took a tour round the Rock via taxi with a very knowledgeable driver. There were loads of apes running around, climbing over cars, eating food visitors gave them which is prohibited but still they, the visitors that is, do it! Make sure you close the car windows especially if you leave possessions inside. Don't try to touch the apes, especially the young ones as it could provoke a protective reaction from the adults. If you just remember they are wild animals and enjoy watching their antics, take some photos etc then you will have a good visit.

“Excellent”
Reviewed July 25, 2013

So interesting to see the apes caring for each other, turning away interlopers from their group, and generally going about their daily lives.
