As we were staying in the hotel, it was the obvious place to eat.
Dinner was good, but more expensive than eating in other restaurants.
The views from the restaurant are amazing, and the staff very friendly and attentive.

Having a spectacular view of the Bay of Gibraltar and across to Algeziras in Spain the house-menu, which changes daily, is excellent value with free sherry, home-prepared olives and coffee included in the generous price. There is also a detailed main menu which includes a wide variety of Spanish, English and Arabic dishes.

There are two restaurants here. We ate in the formal dining room in March 2013 and had a superb meal. Excellent and interesting food - creative without being cute or trendy. The service was excellent and windowside tables look out over the bay. Everything about this experience was good. We also ate in the less expensive restaurant/bar (the Barbary Bar I think). The food was not as posh, but it was again well-prepared, tasty and creative. There is an indoor section with ample table space with the bar, and an outdoor area as well. We also took high tea and it was perfectly okay but nothing special with somewhat reluctant service.

I was most disappointed today to have taken my visitors for afternoon tea £12 at the Rock Hotel. The terrace was dirty, untidy and generally run down, with the added danger of broken crockery on the floor. Having had afternoon tea there several times last year with friends, I was only too quick to recommend it to my visitors- WISH I HADN'T BOTHERED!

We were made to wait over 30 minutes for our sandwiches which consisted of 1 round of sandwich each, choice of Cucumber, ham and avocado, cheese, cheese & tomato and chorizo (all very plain and unappetising) a scone and small piece of cake (limited choice) both of which we had to collect ourselves from the dessert trolley- not waited on!

Needless to say, I will not be returning and would not recommend the place either.

What a shame that it was our last meeting with our visitors before they return home! :0(

Staying here for a short break; chose this purely as an easy option for Valentines night as they were offering an offer that looked (on paper) good value.
Didn't manage a table by the window - shame.
The offer was a four course meal + a glass of champagne - £ 28.00 per head. Also the obligatory 'red rose for the lady' was missed & the delivered to the room later .........!
The food was ok; the starter was a fruit jelly thing which was actually ok; the soup course was also acceptable. The main course was rack of lamb; however very small portions somewhat overcooked & paltry vegatables. The dessert was a cream concoction that was, well, nothing special.
The wine selection is good at the Rock, but not the cheapest.
Overall the experience was ok-ish. The service was patchy - sometimes prompt & friendly, but sometimes a little indifferent. This seemed typical of the Rock generally during our stay of 4 days.
(see separate hotel review).
Perhaps unfair to review it on a set-menu special occassion night, although I suspect this was not that un-typical an evening; also it wasn't that busy - 12 couples maybe. So - 3* it is.
