We didn't want to go for a regular marisco place with the default dishes. After being told that Orthillio bar was full with reservations we found our way to Valdevez.

It's a small place hidden in the small alley in the old city between the main shopping street and the harbour. We were able to get one of the 3 tables outside.

The staff was really really friendly and immediately recognised that we probably didn't speak Spanish, so they sent a charming waitress who was really helpful with our selections. All other staff was also very friendly!

We showed some images that we saw here on Trip Advisor and we got what we asked for. The seared scallops were the best, the zamburinas. 8 for 13,50 were amazing. If my wife and I had to order again we would order it twice. The shrimp rolled in cheese were very crispy fried with angel hair styled noodles were also original.

The crab filled pie and the toast with cheese / chorico / turnip weren't s well as we hoped.

But we would definitely come back to try other dishes.

We visited Valdevez after seeing their sign in the road above, it looked intriguing so we stopped in to see the menu. We decided to book for another night. We were seated at the early part of the night when they were still setting up, it was a little frustrating how someone was loudly moving tables and chairs whilst we tried to listen to the waitress explain the menu. As for the food, it was not quite what we were expecting. To start we had a tuna tartar which came with toast, very dry and unnecessary. We also had a cod salad with sea urchin and black olive. The cod, sea urchin and olives were tasty but it was served on a plate that was quite literally covered in mayonnaise.

For main course we ordered the Valdevez Cod and what we got was a pork knuckle. Even though we pointed at the item on the menu. Either way, the pork was very tasty just not what we expected. Our other dish was a Entrecôte of beef, a very tasty dish and very well cooked. With most of these there were no major issues but we felt the menu was overpriced. Dishes were simple and inelegant and maybe appropriate if pitched a few euros less each.

We wandered around the old town where there are a few two many touristy seafood restaurants. I was looking for a place with a menu del dia to keep the price down for my visiting family. Decided to have a look. The place is interesting inside, updated, slightly quirky in a trendy modern way.

The waitress couldn't have been more helpful telling of the Euro 12.50 menu. Her English was very good so we decided to try it. So glad we did. Choices that day were salmon or duck for the mains, salad or a cheese and mushroom covered bread. The food was very good and nicely presented. The dessert--Grandma's cake (Tarta de la abuela) was excellent.

We were able to have a good meal without breaking the bank.

Nice atmosphere and excellent staff.

We will be back.

Great little spot. English speaking staff helped enormously. Quiet this time of year (Monday night in November) but the food and service was excellent.

Although it does not look very spectacular from the outside, the moment you enter you feel the great atmosphere. The Food is outstanding and the staff is really friendly and skilled. Definitely a place to spend a great evening.
