After a few weeks in galicia, we were looking for a change from the standard tourist fare. Casa Marcelo appeared to fit the bill. I was quite surprised when I saw a big communal table and some bar seating. Not that I mind meeting new people but more that the sitting on a high chair crammed in with other people, none of whom seemed interested in interacting with other people is not my idea of a good time. The menu seemed to be made up of expensive small snack items. The food was actually incredibly tasty and the staff very friendly. But how this restaurant made it up to number 2 in Santiago totally escapes me.

Arrived a little early so we sat outside in the relaxing Japanese style garden and had a drink. We then went inside and sat right in font of the food being prepared.Loved watching Carlos prepare everything fresh. The food was delicious and we were very full! Would love to go again and try more from the menu.Well priced for excellent fresh , beautifully prepared food.

We can start from the sentence 'the food is excellent!'. It is a truth. First impression however was not the best.

The Casa Marcelo design is 'no design' style or just no style. Old things mixes with modern detail as well as Red Hot Chili Peppers music seems to be too loud. Now is time for a nice looking waitress who comes with sad face telling you 'my puppy just passed away'. Well. The real game starts when finally you get your food. The food is simple excellent and you start understand the reason why are you here. Your bill will be a bit high but excellence costs.
Tell the waitress the food was great and maybe she forget for a while that life is terrible and you get a smile.

At first we were a little worried about the seating arrangements around what seemed a long thin dining table, but we soon got used to it and even chatted with fellow diners due to the social layout- not something that normally happens!!
The food was superb, with the dim sum, sushi and sashimi all being perfect. The patatas puerras was wonderful, and the wine list- although not extensive , had a good choice of local bottles. Service was friendly and seeing the food being prepared in front of you added a special twist.
Probably going back today for lunch!!

This small restaurant is very cozy and the chefs and everybody else enjoy giving you good suggestions on food and drinks. You can walk from the Cathedral plaza.
They have exquisite (and tasteful) dim-sum, sashimis and similar, but use local ingredients. So you can have chorizo or rabbit dumplings, for instance. Wonderful experience.
