I had a very nice trip to Santiago and Hostal Alfonso was an important component to it. The rooms were nicely decorated and comfortable, the breakfast was satisfying, location was very convenient and the most important part, the owners were the nicest and most helpful.

We booked direct with Hostal Alfonso and via email requested and got room 201. Any questions we raised prior to travelling were always promptly answered in very good English. The hostal is just on the edge of the town, so quiet at night, but easy walking distance to all the main sights. Hostal Alfonso is family run and the reception is not 24 hours, in fact if was very nice to see the couple who run the place out having a drink one afternoon in the local square - they recognised us too and waved. We found our stay enjoyable, right from check in to check out. Breakfast is cooked and served to order in the small dining area and is more than sufficient to set you up for the day. The décor throughout is homely and cheerful with lots of pictures, fresh flowers in the room and family photos in the dining area. This a family home that has been opened up for guests and you are made to feel very welcome.

Room Tip: We were not disappointed with 201, amazing Cathedral view from window

So friendly, a great change from impersonal hotels. Any questions and the owners are always there or nearby to answer and help. Room 201 has a fabulous view of the cathedral. The breakfast is great and served at your table, great fresh bread and eggs provided fresh from the family's chickens, freshly cooked and served in the style of your choice
. The rooms are on the small sized but contain all that you need. Santiago de Compostela is a great place to visit and Hostel Alfonso is a great place to stay, its in a great location for the old town attractions

Highly recommend this welcoming B&B, lovely people and great value. Ask for a room at the back overlooking the cathedral. And for the parking discount! They also have excellent advice for day trips to the nearby 'Rias' - beautiful coastal drives.

I spent three nights in this exceptionally warm, hospitable pension, furnished with love and care.
Located next to the beautiful Alameida offers uncomparable views of the historical city with the cathedral on one side and the beautiful, extensive park on the other side.
Carefully renovated and decorated with both taste and care, feels like home.
The owners gave me a very warm welcome and royal treatment.
The room was rather small, but certainly sufficient for one person. The double occupation rooms are bigger, but I did not use one. The adequately sized washroom was equiped with brand new fixtures and brightened by a fair-size skylight.
The price of the room included a breakfast, which outdid all what I have experienced in the preceding weeks in Spain.
The hotel does offer only minimal access to an internet-connected computer, but provides a Wi-Fi service throught the whole facility.

There is no doubt, that the owners love what they do and are proud of their work.

I would without any hisitation come here again and am gladly recommending it to a single traveller or a couple.

Good value for money. I stayed in a single room and it was very comfortable. It is close to the cathedral and a very easy walk to the bus stop to the airport. They offer a very nice breakfast and gently offered more juice or food. The owners are lovely, very helpful and they keep everything clean. The only issue was with the bathroom. It was a little bit small and narrow. Since I am slim, I had no problem at all, but a big person could have some problem to move around. Overall, it was a very good experience. I totally recommend it!!!!

While traveling all over Europe, this was one of the best places we've stayed in. It's really worth the money! A lovely, cute and cozy room with all the luxuries needed (great soft towels!! And the rooms at the back have a great view of the cathedral), a wonderful breakfast (free range eggs, fresh bread, great coffee) and exceptional service from the owners. They don't speak much English, but do their best with the English words that they do know (which is enough) and are so friendly that we're actually sorry we have to leave again...
