“Cozy place”
Reviewed June 14, 2011

Ever since we arrived at the hotel, the staff was very nice to us. The place is very clean, the beds are comfortable and it is quite near the touristic sites. I would recommend it 100%

This hotel was a base to our wedding planning weekends that my partner and I undertook. We found the hotel clean and tidy, a basic no frills hotel, perfect for a weekend base if you are buzzing around the city and are not wanting luxury.
We had a space in the underground car park, some manoevring required! The hotel is situated in a residential block and is quite. There is a lift, but it is small, so think about access if you have problems. We took the stairs.

The rooms and linen are very clean and laundered as you would expect, our bathroom was hygienic and basic, but well maintained. Breakfast was okay- a croissant and bread roll with juice and/or hot drinks coffee/tea/cola cao. Not bad for 3 Euros. There is no restaurant but they have links with a restaurant close by and likewise with a spa/swimming/leisure complex. Ask at reception for these services.

My only concern, would be if you had young children, making sure the windows are secure as it is on the 6th floor. There is air conditioning.

As we are getting married in Santiago, this hotel was cheap and suited our weekend wedding planning as it was so economical. It was and still is value for money, but be under no illusion it is a no frills, basic accomodation. The rooms were clean and laundered well. It is in a residential apartment block on the 6th floor, with a small lift. There is a basic breakfast option, croissant and jam/bread roll, tea/coffee/cola cao. It is sufficient. Think about accessability if stairs are a problem, we took the stairs and lift.
There is an underground parking spot that we ordered prior. It does require some manoevring.
I managed to pick up WI-Fi in the reception area which was useful.
It is 10-15 mins walk to the monumental zone, and taxis are a plenty or the hotel will book you one. There are plenty of shops as its on the edge of the commercial zone, with plenty of places to eat.
On the back of our stay, we have put family in there for our actual wedding as a city centre base, it worked out about 40 per room per night. And this gets better value the higher the exchange rate gets from Pound to Euro.
If you are visiting and not fussed about luxury, this is a good place to stay that is not going to break the bank, and give you a good base to go exploring.
They do have a partner restaurant down the street not in situ but there is a small dining room for breakfast. They also have a partner spa offer which could be of interest.

A basic hotel located in Santiago being on the 6th floor of an office block / block of flats.
Extremely convenient for the station - 5 mins walk and the old town centre 5 mins also.
The room was very clean and comfortable if not a little dated. The bathroom facilities were very good and again very clean.
Would be happy to stay for a few days on a low budget. The staff were very pleasant and helpful - they kept our bags for a whole day and showed as soon as the request was made that this would be absolutely no problem.
Breakfast is shown on some sites as being in another building - My breakfast was in fact the hotel and consisted of the usual bread, cake, jams, fruit juices and coffee. Good and substantial.
Would stay again for a short period.
Only 1 minor detail is the TV stations, which dont bother me, but it would be good to have a variety of international channels for those who would like it. Only 5 local channels were available. (Might of course just been my room)
Felt that security was good

The Rey Fernando is close to railway station and airport-bus terminal (in Rua Dr.Teixeiro). It's in the heart of the busy, stylish shopping and commercial centre and about ten-15 minutes walk to the centre of the pedestrianised old city. The hotel is on the 6th floor of an apartment block. It's quiet, simple, friendly, clean. Just what you need for a low-cost city base. Breakfast is traditional Spanish - rolls, croissant and coffee. Nothing justifies the complaints in the previous review (possibly excluding any wheelchair difficulties the party experienced).
John.

We stayed at Rey Fernando for a short break (myself, my sister and our father). There were a few lies told by the hotel website:-

1. We are wheelchair friendly; they were not. There was a lift but it was not big enough to fit the wheelchair in. therewere steps into the hotel which were unsuitable. The wheelchair would not fit in the hotel room either and had to be dismantled in the corridor.

2. They say they have a restuarant - They dont but they do advertise one three streets away!!!.

3. They say they have a swimming pool! - where.

4. They say we are 5 mins from monumental centre. They are not. We had to get a taxi and it was more like 10 mins ride and 30 mins walk.

The hotel room was tiny and clearly unsuitable for 3 people with a wheelchair.

They only spoke english when they wanted to if there was a problem they pretended they couldnot understand you. i got round this by insisting we translate by computer.

On the second day they lost the key to the safe and told us we could not access our belongings. I insisted a locksmith was called immediatly and thw key was miraculously found.

The breakfast was vile and unsuitable.

The bar did not stock any wine and only had a limited number of bottles of beer.

Santiago was beautiful and charming. I will definately go back to santiago but would not stay here again.

I suppose it would be ok for those able bodied wishing to stay on the outskirts of the city.
