“Probably the most beautiful cathedral in Europe”
Reviewed November 29, 2012 via mobile

This awesome structure is built to impress. It has an atmosphere that makes one feel truely humble. I think that the hundreds of pilgrims some of whom have walked many kilometres, add to the overall atmosphere and reverence of the area. Probably the cathedral appears a little grim at first but when you see the Portica de Gloria behind the western facade, you will be blown away. The Romanesque interior is quite amazing with the vaulted roof giving a magical effect. The main tomb of the relics of St James are beneath the main altar and this is the ultimate destination of the pilgrims. All in all a magical visit. Watch out for the largest censer in the world, the botafumeiro, which is swung by manic priests on special days and almost touches the roof

“Awesome!”
Reviewed November 25, 2012

historic and beautiful! It was definitely one of the most magical places I've seen. It's wonderful to stand out in the morning and see all the pilgrims make their way in from their long journey. I met some really incredible people with some amazing stories. An obvious must see in Santiago

“More than just a Cathedral”
Reviewed November 23, 2012

A warren of naves, chapels, mini palaces, cloisters, museums, altars, staircases, squares, statues. You need a full day to explore this wonderful, mysterious and history laden edifice.
And from the surrounding parks, fabulous views across the city.
One drawback. Beware "pilgrims".

“Santiago de Compostela”
Reviewed November 22, 2012

Very interesting history and must be an incredible site at the end of a personal camino, but apart from the usual Catholic architecture not so spectacular. But you can't go to Santiago without seeing the cathedral - it's impossible to avoid

“The uniqueness of Santiago de Compostela Cathedral”
Reviewed November 18, 2012

Departing from Portugal after doing the pilgrimage from the Portuguese way I has happy to reach Santiago. The way was great and the people throughout were too. I met lots of nice people and nevertheless kept the ability of doing it by myself. The way is the goal but I had a smile on my face when I arrived minutes before the morning mass. The Cathedral is a Great Cathedral with a spiritual and religious aura that goes way beyond its beautiful walls. Will come back.
