Eurostars Gran Hotel Santiago
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed June 3, 2012

Gran Hotel Santiago is on the outskirts of the city into a modern neighborhood and is about 25 minutes walk to the center. It is a large, rather modern business hotel. It looks neat and well maintained. The hotel has a spacious lobby / reception area including a bar. The rooms and bathrooms are of a decent size and had all amenities. The shower panel is somewhat complex to operate and requires some engineering skills. There is sufficient hanging and storage space in the room. With the group we had a buffet dinner, which was good; the breakfast was pretty standard. Most travel companions had problems with the air conditioning in their rooms. The staff in the bar was very unfriendly and the bar was unmanned most of the time. All in all, one would expect a bit more from a 4 star hotel.

Just stayed one night in the hotel as Iam in Santiagio more than 4 times a year to travel to ferrol which is about 45 minute drive from airport i always stay over night in city for early flight.
My last visit january stayed in Sanfrancisco monumental this time decided to try this hotel as said easy reach to airport (not !) . Directions to hotel nightmare not as if not driven in city before doing it for 15 years eventually after findind it was checked in by very friendly staff grudge paying 13 euros for parking but only one night room was spacious and very clean. The hotel is no where near centre about 15 minute walk so for elderly or infirm not recommended there are hotels like hesperia arguanney parador to name a few slap bang in centre. No complaints about hotel or staff left at 6 in morning for airport so didnt have breakfast good hotel for money but if you want to be in heart of tourist area not for you.

We stayed here three nights for a conference at the university across the street. It was very nice- the room was very clean and quite large, staff was very helpful. Some spoke English, others did not. The breakfast was excellent. The only downside is the fairly long walk into town, especially during rainy season, but I would stay here again.

Some previous reviewers have said that the hotel is handily sited for the shops and tourist attractions. No it isn't, unless an uphill walk of a kilometre or so, mostly through some very modern and unlovely parts of town alongside busy roads is your idea of a relaxing bit of fun.

The hotel itself is acceptable. My room was a decent size, had all amenities and was kept clean and tidy by the staff. Food was adequate, but nothing to get really excited about. I had breakfast and dinner there most nights of my stay. Breakfast was the usual choice of things from a buffet and dinner was also a buffet, serving a reasonable range of food, including a few local Galician dishes. If you're going to cook food and leave it for hours on hotplates, then this is about as good as you're going to get, I would guess.

Staff were friendly, but command of English was varied. This doesn't bother me, but if you're the sort of traveller who needs the reassurance of hotel staff with very fluent English, this might be a consideration. Also bear in mind that the hotel is built round an inner glass ceilinged courtyard. The corridors are open to this courtyard, with quite low balconies. And the lifts have glass walls. Anyone who suffers from vertigo might not be keen on this arrangement!

Hotel guests seem to be predominantly Spanish and similar coach parties there to see the Cathedral. At busy times getting the lift requires a little bit of patience.

A very nice modern hotel. Walking distance to just about everything. The staff's English was good. The rooms were big, clean, quiet, and had all the amenities, except no ironing board/iron in the room. Toll free calls were free. Nice view from the top floor restaurant. I’d stay there again in a second.

Lovely hotel near the city centre (20-25 minutes walking to the Cathedral). Staff are very polite, very friendly and always helping.
No problems with the service.

Cleaning ( average). Problems that the cleaners didnt clean the room properly (eg., bedding, toilet seat, etc). Also, they didnt change our pillows frequently.

Location: fine, good for those who love walking. Plenty of shops around and supermarkets.

Room: Junior Suite: Nice , plenty of room ( including sofa, good light, nice bed, safe, and TV in each room)

Breakfast: Very nice. A good selection of bacon, egg, pastries, juices, cereal, cheese, jam, bread. Coffee too dark and luke warm. Apart from that everything is fine.

Dinner: good , eat 2 plates for 12 Euros. A good selection of wine and beer.

Overall: 7/10.

A great hotel on the outskirts of Santiago.

It felt brand new and the rooms were decorated to an extremely high standard.

If you want a high standard of hotel, which is really good value this is the hotel for you. It is about a 10-15 minute walk into town, which means they don't charge as much. We were delighted with our choice and would highly recommend anyone who cannot afford the central Santiago hotels to stay here.
