“Lovely hotel in centre of Santiago de Compestela”
Reviewed May 18, 2014

I stayed in this hotel for a couple of nights after doing 125km of the Camino way. This hotel is very central close to the Cathedral and the varied shops and eatery's in Santiago. The view from our room was lovely and the room itself was great. There is a restaurant on the ground floor (which is not opened in the evening just in the afternoon) where we were served a lovely breakfast. Although there was times allocated for breakfast there was no problem having it at a much later time (probably appreciative of the fact that people had spend days getting up early to walk!). I didn't have wifi in my room, although it is allocated a wifi zone - mind you I found that in several places in Santiago de Compostela. However the owner/manager (Veartrez) was really obliging and more than helpful and had no problem with me staying in the restaurant area using my iPad and served coffee/wine during this time, she was just really helpful in general. Great location, fabulous staff.

Room Tip: A room facing to the front gives a great view.

We stayed here for a week and loved our room, as requested we were allocated room 12 which had a balcony and a lovely view, with large twin beds. We had problems with the heater which could not be turned off and with lack of wifi, so we were offered a superior room but opted to stay in our room which had a far better layout and view. The beds were extremely comfortable and we loved the spacious bathroom, all together a great room with a large fitted wardrobe too. Wifi was strong in the corridor and in the superior room we viewed but not available in our room and this was an unexpected nuisance as was the heat caused by the radiator which could not be turned off. We were disappointed to note there was no lounge nor communal area in this hotel and we were given a key to enter the building and a key for our room and there was no one on reception or on site during our stay at night. The restaurant attached served breakfast, a very basic affair but fresh and the director was very happy to arrange alternatives of our choice. The restaurant was closed all week and only opened from Thursday during our stay so in the evening there was nowhere to go other than the room so it was not the hotel experience we thought we had booked. All the staff were really helpful and friendly and we would stay here again and recommend this hotel for its wonderful location. For the price we paid we did expect the services of a hotel, there was no telephone nor information pack in the room, no room service and no staff in the building after the restaurant closed. Tea and coffee making facilities and water in the room would have helped a great deal in these circumstances. We did not dine in the restaurant which was also a very nice environment and one of the reasons we selected this hotel over many others so it was very unfortunate and disappointing that as the only communal area in this 'hotel' it was closed for the best part of our stay and we found ourselves having to go out when we would preferred to enjoy our lodgings. This place has huge potential due to the excellent level of service, location and character but we felt we paid too much when we could have enjoyed the full facilities of a hotel which we had expected for the same price or less.

Room Tip: Room 12 if you don't need wifi or one above for a lovely view over the Praza Mazarelos

This is by far the most charming hotel we stayed in during our Camino this summer. We just fell in love with this place. The staff was very helpfull with everything and very friendly. We will go back again for sure. The hotel is placed 5 min walk from the Cathedral and surrounded by small streets with plenty of shopping and dining opportunities. The room we stayed in was clean and cosy and had everything we needed. I can only recommend going there and experience the Spanish culture up front.
