“Little bed & breakfast gem close to all attractions”
Reviewed October 3, 2013

We booked for one night thanks to the raving reviews here on tripadvisor and we are glad we did. When we wrote an e-mail for booking about 8 weeks in advance we were informed that there were only two rooms left which we thought was a very good sign.

The hotel is located at the beginning of the traffic free central area of Santiago, about 10 minutes on foot from the Cathedral. The hotel has a deal with a nearby parking where you can leave the car for the whole day for 10 euros. We were welcomed by a very friendly and informative receptionst who showed us our rooms and explained all the main attractions on the map.

The rooms were very nice and of average size, with a newly renovated bathroom (if it wasn't new it definitely looked that way). One of the rooms was overlooking the road and was more noisy than the other, facing the yard. The internal patio hosts a very nice bar that is used both by the hotel guests and locals coming from outside. We found the garden area to be the absolute highlight of the hotel.

In the morning we were served a wonderful breakfast that included freshly squeezed orange juice and Tarta de Santiago (local almond cake). Breakfast is served either in the garden, in the main bar area on the ground floor or on the first floor overlooking the garden.

We absolutely loved Costa Vella and suggest to stay here when visiting Santiago.

PS: do not miss a visit to the Cathedral; it is a mystic happening, even if you are not Catholic

the perfect choice to visit santiago de compostela
RIKI will do everything he can for you to enjoy the staying
if you have a car you will have to leave it at a parking place near the old city but if you are lucky during weekends you can park your car near the hotel for free.
saturday nigths starting at 20:00 there are local backpipes bands going around and visiting diferent bars and restaurants.
i went to la pulperia just 50 meters up the street from the hotel and spend 3 hours of fun hearing the diferent groups singing with the locals and eating .it is a local bar visited by locals and you have 6 or 7 plates to eat and plenty to drink .
don't forget to visit the market in the old town and have your ration of pulpo a la feiria
(octopus market style)

Room Tip: upper floors looking the garden you will see the view of the hills around santiago

Not only the rooms were a good size and everything was well cleaned, the service went beyond the call of duty: the receptionist actually left the hotel to help us find a parking spot. The breakfast was very nice and the garden exceptional. There is also a comfortable public room where you can relax and enjoy a book: they have a bookcase with a few titles available.

We are here for 3 nights after completing the Camino Frances. We have a room on the 3rd floor, the top floor, it is lovely with plenty of room and great windows you open for a fantastic view and luckily for our stay perfect weather that includes a perfect breeze, what more could you want. Originally we were to have a garden view bit though it is lovely I prefer the other.
While here my friend had problems with Medication, Robert was so helpful I really can't thank him enough. Everyone was helpful and now my friends problem is hopefully fixed we will enjoy the rest of our stay to the hilt.

Room Tip: If you have a problem with stairs the hotel does not have a lift so ask for ground floor or the firs...

We arrived hot and frazzled having struggled to find the hotel. The man on reception sent us into the tranquil garden with a beer (complimentary) to cool off. This we did admirably and soon recovered our sense of humour. The hotel is easy to find if you turn off the Avenue Xuan VVIII at the lights and stop at the bollards into the old town the reception will let you in. You can then securely park your car 5 - 10 minutes walk away. The hotel is really lovely. Comfortable beds, clean towels, loads of hot water. Our room had a gallery with sofa and table overlooking the garden. The garden does get busy in the afternoons with people having drinks and coffee, but we always found a space and it was never intrusive. We thought the breakfasts were great, loved the local bread with oil and tomatoes, the croissants and honey and the almond cake were all super. The staff could not have been better, friendly and helpful but not overbearing. They lent us a booklet in English with recommendations for restaurants, sightseeing and excursions. Yves Rocher toiletries were a nice touch, as was the library on the second floor. would certainly recommend this hotel for visitors to this charming city.

I stayed here with friends in June, and chose the hotel based on TA reviews. The communication with the hotel was excellent, and friendly.

The hotel is just on the edge of the old town and in an old and charming building. I liked the idea of being able to sit in the garden in the afternoon.

The rooms that we had were overlooking the street, and mine was in the attic. We were there during a 'hot spell' and the room I was in was stifling. A fan had been put in the room but it was still extremely stuffy. My friends were on a lower floor, they also had a fan and had french windows opening on to the street, but this in one of the main routes into the city, and there are taxis and delivery lorries ( and refuse carts ) from early in the morning - which made a nights sleep difficult.

The breakfast in the garden was charming, but basic. I dont eat cheese, but it was offered every morning, and no alternative if you didnt want it. Also the staff were over run. The hotel allows non guests to use the garden and have breakfast and on one morning one waitress was serving 19 tables. The poor woman was working her socks off, and with a smile, but it did seem ridiculous and detracted from any advantage of having stayed in the hotel.

This was the same in the afternoon/evening where we could not get a table in the garden as it was full with mainly non hotel guests.

So the staff were lovely, the hotel is in a good location , and its an OK price. However I wont be going back there as I would try another hotel, and pop in to use the garden here if I fancied it.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the back which would have a view, and be quieter.
