Great staff who are incredibly helpful. Bar is quiet without atmosphere but garden is an ideal spot for pre or post dinner drinks. Fifty yards up street is mojos which is a cracker bar with magic garden. Breakfast buffet is extensive and appetizing. Restaurant menu is a bit limited so eat out in town. Busy market across the road is worth a visit. Really enjoyed the three nights here.

Small, friendly hotel just outside the city walls, opposite the main market (which was fascinating!). Beautiful old building with quirky elements (artworks included a rather scary wooden man standing on the landing) and a magnificent, ancient stone well with a glass cover, set into the floor of the coffee room. Nice and quiet at the back, with an inner and outer door between our room and the lift, so well soundproofed. Efficient and pleasant staff on reception. Breakfast was quite good, or would have been if there had been more than one person on duty. Had to make do with tiny plates and spoons as crockery and cutlery ran out, and we missed out on eggs for two of our three breakfasts as the waiter was not organised enough to bring them. Very ordinary-looking fruit salad too, looked as if it was out of a tin but I wasn't tempted to try it so can't verify.

Good morning and thank you for your nice comments.
We'll talk with the staff serving breakfast to see if there was an issue with the warm meals the days you stayed here. For the fruit, indicating that the buffet breakfast has fresh fruit available all year, but we also have some fruit in syrup, here in Spain they call fruit cocktail.
We hope to see you soon in Santiago.

Our first night in Santiago and we were initially very pleased with the small Rustic Hotel on a busy street which contains lots of character. We arrived as a Family of four and stayed on the top floor. The room was clean and the beds decent enough. No real views of the city but didn't mind. Room door was located next to the lift and the acoustic separation was virtually nil. Was awakened in the night more than once with noisy lift and hard floors echoing around the room. Thought the restaurant was very good and the cost was reasonable.

Room Tip: Away from the lift!

We had two rooms and our friends one. Rooms a good size but all in the back need better soundproofing. Building work from early one morning under our daughters room went on all day and as she wasn't well she didn't have the energy to ask to move. Our friends did change rooms and staff were very helpful offering a choice. Noisy schoolchildren weekday mornings could be heard from the rooms at the back early in the morning. That said, this hotel has lots to recommend it. Clean rooms, good size beds and bed linen and well stocked good priced mini bar. Very good breakfast and bar and good areas for reading and relaxing.Nice garden and aviary . We were able to check in a bit early. All staff were excellent and most helpful. Location for cathedral about ten minute walk and same to main shops. Hotel supplies good size umbrellas- needed a lot on this trip !

Room Tip: Ask for a quiet room

We thought it would be better to stay on the top floor of the original hotel on the street so we requested this only to find after the first night that it was a big mistake because the top floor is poorly insulated for sound and we were disturbed by a very noisy bar over the road in the market. None of this, of course, is the fault of the hotel... even the lack of insulation appears to be down to planning controls on the modifications to the roof line to accommodate extra rooms, being unnecessarily over-strict, preventing secondary glazing. We were moved down to the second floor at the rear but still in the original building and this was excellent and beautifully heated during a cold spell.
The breakfast room at the rear in the new extension was too cold - possibly because the staff hadn't put the heating on.... it remained off throughout our stay. The buffet breakfast was quite good with plentiful fresh orange juice and pastries but the cooked items were something of a disaster.... cold fried eggs and bacon (the heated dishes were totally ineffectual).... but after a request for hot eggs and bacon, this was cooked and brought to our table. We noticed that other guests just accepted the cold option from the counter without any fuss! The coffee... from a machine was awful.
There were few guests so the bar was very quiet. Again, no heating but we mentioned this and the barman immediately put the radiators on.
We would go back if returning to the city.

Room Tip: Don't accept a top floor room in the original building overlooking the street!

Dear Customer,
Your feedback helps us to improve our services. Evidence of this is the work of soundproofing in January 2014 in the rooms of the upper floor.
We have taken note of the errors that affected you at the buffet so will not happen again:
The dish chauffing is turned on early, offer customers hot food made at the time and gives you the opportunity to make an espresso coffee machine if the guest is not satisfied with the buffet coffee.
Hopefully you will soon return to Pousadas to check the proposed solution to suggestions from us.
Thanks and regards

Having walked a lot of miles and taken various trains and planes to get to Santiago I really wanted this hotel to be great. I was delighted that it was as from the moment I entered nothing was too much trouble. Had a room in the historic old building all to myself that was generous in proportion. The only minor quibble was the way pressure, but this aside I'd recommend this as a hotel for an pilgrims or visitors . Didn't eat the but took their recommendation for their sister restaurant in the old town and was delighted that I had.

Thank you very much for your kind comments. We hope that you have time to live another experience in Santiago, perhaps coming from another path, as the Way English, which is one of the least used. You could get to make it in 3 or 4 days.
We recommend making your reservations through our website to avoid problems with intermediaries. Thanks again and greetings
