The building is very impressive, originally built as a hospital for the Pilgrims. It is very well kept and the staff are very nice, friendly and helpful. The location is outstanding as it's in the square of the Cathedral. Many nice tapas restaurants just a couple of blocks away.
It's a bit pricey but the location makes it worth it.

We looked forward to “splurging” at the Paradores. We were Perigrinos and had been hiking on the Camino since 9/02/19 and staying at Albergues and Pensions. We hiked about 200 miles and so looked forward to the Paradores. My friend got food poisoning at the buffet and threw up all day. We had difficulty sleeping one night because of all the walking and moving of furniture above our room. We learned the next day there had been an Event in a room above ours. When we checked out and related these incidents, the 2 men at the front desk didn’t care. In fact one seemed to know there was a problem with the meat at the buffet. I plan on giving lectures on our experience on the Camino and would have to warn people to stay away from the Paradores. I do plan on writing the manager today.

Dear Mss. Platt,

I have to apologise for not having yet answered to your complaint about your experience at the Parador, during your stay at 24th and 25th last september.

I am very sorry that the experience you had expected to have at the end of your Camino, didn´t fullfil your expectations.

About the breakfast Buffet, I have to inform you that we don´t offer raw meat in this buffet, and the meat products we offer are iberian cured meat, like pork ham, pork loin, etc, or boiled ham. I can assure you that we didn´t have any other complaint about food poisoning these days, and never had this complaint for the breakfast service. It´s very difficult to have food poisoning with cured iberian meat. However, if you think this service was not satisfactory, I´ll be pleased to refund the 42 € of the two breakfast.

About the noises you have had above your bedroom the night of 25th september, I have to inform you that we had a dinner planned at 8.30 h. pm. But they arrived later and we couldnt finish it until midnight. I have to apologised if the noises arrived to your room and you couldn´t rest properly.

I'll contact with you personally by mail. Again, I apologise for not having answered you before.

Kind regards,

I was expecting much more for the premium price than I got at this Parador. The outstanding position of the hotel cannot be questioned. The place as a "Parador Hotel", I am sorry to say, is only average. In all my Parador stays I have never once left thinking that I wouldn't go back. Santiago is the first one. There is far too much access for the general public. There are a few signs stating that beyond the sign is private. The problem is that these are not policed and people just wander in and sit down. The seating area across from the reception has a number of seats which are completely threadbare with the stuffing sticking out. 5 star hotel with a premium price? I think not. We sat in this area and tried to purchase some snacks from the bar but were told that food cannot be served in this area and we would need to move into the bar, no problem with that. However we observed on more than one occasion people walking in directly off the street sit down and open up packed lunches and eat away unchallenged.
The staff were a mixed bunch of sullen men and mainly friendly women. The men, apart from 2 (fair hair balding guy in Bar and tall slim dark haired guy with glasses at Breakfast) should go on a customer care course and learn that the service industry is about being pleasant and interacting with the guest. The whole vibe they gave off was one of "I really don't want to be here" . Well if that was what they exuded you can understand why a paying guess might also have those thoughts. We ate in both restaurants and were disappointed at the choice on the menu. I love fish so it was no problem for me but my companions do not and their choice was extremely restricted. What was served up was cool to both touch and taste. Better tastier food can be purchased in the town Tapas Bars. More food, better choice for 66% of the cost. The reception described the less formal restaurant as a Tapas style menu. It is not.

Room tip: Don't discount other good hotels in the area.

My gratitude to the staff here is overwhelming, the busboys, maids, reception, waiters, bellmen, all make this a wonderful place to stay for several nights. Three to be exact. Any others this is for you as well. You are the heart of the living hotel. I reserved a suite and paid in advance about 9 months ago. As we arrived in the rain and wind on a Monday night, everyone performed their jobs to perfection. The suite is more than I could ask for. A large bath is center with a bedroom on one side and on the other, a room with a desk, chair, sofa, large closet and table. The floors here are old and beautifully maintained. You cannot walk without creaks and groans being emitted from them. I opted for breakfasts included as well. They are delicious. I sent out some laundry and it came back by 4PM, delivered to the door. Ironed, not as I would do it, but really great. Nice to have clean to wear for the days remaining on this European trip. Thank You.

One of the best paradors stayed in. Lots to see wandering around inside (as well as in the town).

Breakfasts excellent as usual for Paradors. Ate dinner one night; very good.

Room very good, nice and quiet.

Room tip: Top floor always good for Paradors (as otherwise you can sometimes hear people above clunking around on wooden floors)
