“Tapas, but modern chic style”
Reviewed May 13, 2013

Great selection of food, served on nice modern china. Good wines, service was excellent. Very busy with local people at lunchtime, always a good sign.

“Inventive mini-sandwiches at their best”
Reviewed May 5, 2013

Our hotel recommended this place and it certainly is a popular one that we visited for lunch on a Sunday and then again for dinner as another restaurant we wanted to try was closed. Among other things, they have a huge array of inventive mini-sandwiches (montaditos), basically slices of baguettes topped with an inventive array of offerings, we chose cold smoked salmon with a tiny green topping, a red pepper stuffed with tuna and topped with a slice of anchovy, a crab salad mixed with sweet corn kernels, and then again a whole bunch more in the evening, they were all absolutely fantastic and most of them cost 1.30 euro - a steal (a bit more for some of the hot items). Also, if you like anchovies (fresh, not the salted kind) try their boquerones! Try this place, no reservations, so during the busy hours you might have to wait.

“Disappointing”
Reviewed April 7, 2013

The menu offers a decent selection of tapas and reasonable prices, but this place is not deserving of the rating many have given it. We visited the Taberna do Obisbo on a rainy, cold Sunday in April when few tourists were About. We were seated right away, and then ignored for 15 minutes while we watched the staff accommodate two separate tables of Spaniards who arrived much later than us. We ordered a bottle of the house Rioja, and it was served ice cold, straight from the refrigerator. That's a first for me.

Pimientos de padron were good, (and i appreciate that they aknowledge that out of season, they are not truly 'de Padron' but a similiar type of pepper) The langoustine al ajillo was in a served in a watery soup soup rather than the delicious olive oil the region is known for. I did see a few gratuitous slices of garlic and a red pepper in the sauce, but could not taste either of them. Don't bother sopping up this sauce with your bread.

For desert we ordered Crema Catalan, and were so annoyed to receive the instant pudding that is ubiquitous in many inexpensive Spanish restaurants and cafeterias. Absolutely NOT the real thing, and when I questioned the server about it, she tried to assure me that it was made from scratch. I know real Crema Catalan, and this was not it.

We ended our meal with a tepid cup of cafe con leche, and our disappointment was complete. I won't be back and don't recommend this to anyone who wants a true Spanish tapas experience.

“An informal place-perfect to fill up after a days walking!”
Reviewed April 5, 2013

All the reviews are true! This place is wonderful. Lots of available tapas on display and ready to be served to you in minutes. Reasonable prices too. Best to sit at the bar and chat to the locals. It is a NOT a fine dining experience if that is what you are looking for! Try the fried brie dipped in almonds on a stick! Yummy...

“Fun Tapas Bar, Lots of Seafood”
Reviewed March 24, 2013

We went here because of the good ratings-and we're so glad we did! The bar was chock-full with all the different (mostly seafood) tapas on display. It was overwhelming (in a good way). Everything looked delicious. We had a huge scallop with shrimp, a shrimp & mushroom skewer, and a couple of different kinds of wine. The waiters were practicing their English, which was fun (and helpful-we were able to ask what everything was). So yes, they cater to tourists, but the food was delicious, so who cares? There's a bar in front to sit at (and look at all the tasty tapas options) and there are a few tables in the back. We were even given choices on how we wanted things cooked (grilled, boiled, etc.). Fabulous experience.
