“Windy + wet but worth it!”
Reviewed March 5, 2014

On one of our windiest, wettest days we visited A Coruna- never been before so it was an adventure. The fast train from Santiago was 6 euros then we caught the No.5 bus for a quick tour round the port to the Tower of Hercules. Windswept, wet and cold we made it to the entrance to dry out a bit!

The displays were well presented and, thanks to their excellent English translation boards, made it a great experience- we climbed to the top of the square tower but the wind gusts prevented anyone from climbing higher. The view from the top of the huge waves hitting the rocks was spectacular!

The explanations of the gradual erosion and then the enlightened rebuilding was really interesting especially the video of the construction drawings showing the Roman and 18th C alterations.

Definitely worth a visit, though on a calm, warm sunny day it might not be as exhilarating!

“One of the Oldest Lighthouses in the World”
Reviewed March 3, 2014

This whole area of La Coruna, Spain has beautiful, interesting art sculptures placed along the coast. You could spend a morning or afternoon perusing the beauty of this rugged coast...including the Tower of Hercules. Definitely worth the small entrance price to climb this ancient tower/lighthouse just to see the views of the Atlantic and Cantabrian coastline. Hold onto your belongings as you open the door to enter the top area of the tower...the winds are tremendous!

“Good sightseeing spot”
Reviewed January 15, 2014

The Tower of Hercules is a great place to stop by for sightseeing. The view (even on the ground) is spectacular--you can see really far into the ocean!
Note: Be very careful if you go up to the top of the tower! The edge at the top is very short and there is almost no guard rail!
There is a parking lot right next to the information building, so you can drive there if you want. Make sure you visit the large tile compass on the ground near the far side of the tower!

Roman era lighthouse still in operation. Free to walk up to, small museum has entrance fee. Beautiful location. Onsite parking or walk there from town centre. Bus 11 stops not too far away at Paseo Maritimo 9 or Las Lagoas. Easy to combine with a visit to the nearby Aquarium if required. Doesn't take too long to visit if on tight schedule.

“Well Worth the Visit”
Reviewed December 28, 2013

It is well worth the walk up to the lighthouse. It is beautiful building, the view is spectacular. The information is in a few different languages. There is a large car park and bathrooms (the bathrooms are small and dark, and at the bottom of the hill up to the lighthouse).
