“Lands End”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 29, 2012

I have stayed at the Hesperia Finisterre on business four times in the last couple of years. As others have said it is not a 5* property when compared to some, But it is a perfectly acceptable and comfortable hotel with clean and nicely sized rooms which are not short of the amenities that you would expect.

The hotel has a sports club in its grounds with tennis courts a good gym and two outdoor swimming pools, one of them is enormous. There is good communal space, a lobby on the ground floor and on the first floor a bar/lounge and a restaurant.

I have had drinks and snacks in the bar, the service was a bit mañana but very friendly. and the food and drink is excellent. Breakfast is a very well stocked and good quality Spanish style buffet with hams cheeses and breads, but you can have cooked eggs and things if you want them.

The location is perfect for the Old Town and some exceptional seafood restaurants. But not very close to the beach, which is about a half mile walk, or a bit more if you want to go to the Hercules Lighthouse. So it depends what your priorities are I suppose. English is not widely spoken here or in the rest of Coruña for that matter. But that gives a great opportunity to practice your Spanish, or even Gallego.

Stayed for five nights for a wedding in town. Not sure what planet this hotel is 5 stars on, we are from the US, but if you are used to quality and service, you will not find it here. Reasons:

- hotel is dated... stained carpets, wear and tear on everything, cleanliness is questionable
- terrible mattresses, low thread count sheets, cheap pillows
- two of the five nights we got no sleep due to weddings in the hotel that went until 6 AM, the incredibly loud music and noise from the events filled our room and the hallways outside, hotel staff acted as if this was acceptable and okay (our room was on the second floor)
- be prepared for non smoking rooms and floors to have smoking and smell of smoke... the hotel tolerates it everywhere and non smoking is basically non existent

Overall, this is supposed to be the best hotel in town, but it's average at best and definitely not a place to get a comfortable night's sleep, especially for longer stays.

Room Tip: Do not book on the second floor, due to noise from hotel events that go into the early morning hours...

This hotel has very confortable rooms, very good breakfast, and is well located for tourism, but little far from the beach. The hotel is very well run for one person that does everything, from check in, check out, tour advice, reservations, etc. If you are lucky you can access him right away, but if arrived group or the person is busy it can take 30 minutes or more, at the end you walk away.

Stayed for three nights and thoroughly enjoyed the hotel. Staff was friendly, room was very clean and comfortable, breakfast was exceptional. Wish I could have stayed longer.

Just got back from a stay here and enjoyed it. First time in what is supposed to be a 5 star hotel. Hotel is nice, clean and staff very helpful. Location is good, close to the Puerto Real so at breakfast, there are great views looking over the port and its convenient for the Airport Bus that stops close by. The staff offered to speak to me in English but I didnt take them up on the offer - so cannot comment.

We booked as part of an offer we saw online and got unlimited access to the sports club next door - not sure if thats the normal thing though. The sports club is nice but the spa is outdoors and is cold and salty water so not what we expected but refreshing! The two heated pools are not very big, whilst the indoor gyms. saunas, turkish baths and jacuzzis (which are all in the changing rooms so are single sex only) were packed.

The breakfast - great. Wide choice and great views. Very friendly staff. Plus the option to have freshly cooked hot breakfasts rather then the stuff thats been on display for a while.

The room was modern. It was a Junior Suite, so we had a proper double bed (without asking!) and in the bathroom, a hydrotherapy bath. Modern and some good views - we were in room 608 so had views of the pool and the bay. In general clean, but there was one shelf that was high up aboive the safe/minibar that clearly hadnt been dusted for a few weeks. By the way - Minibar...expensive...3.75 for a 200ml bottle of Coke!

Only complaints - for the money, it wasnt "really special" but it was a great stay nevertheless.

Room Tip: Airport Bus stops in the Puerto Real, by the Plaza Maria Pita (a 5 minute walk from the hotel) and c...

Pros: Nice location, plenty leisure facilities, spacious.

Cons: There are many other hotels in La Coruna that are better value for money. The Hesperia is considerably overpriced for what you get. It is a liitle too dated and is struggling to compete.
