“Tired looking but relaxing”
Reviewed November 6, 2013

This place needs to be renovated rapidly and well. But it wont be, the nature of the Paradores (state owned) means that it will not be renovated to anywhere near the standard it should be to do it justice. 5 years ago Paradores were great, this one needs help. However, we had a lovely time, décor doesn't make a holiday. It was clean the staff were friendly and helpful, the drinks were large and the atmosphere was calm and relaxed. The wifi is atrocious so be prepared.

Its very well located for the main street in Ceuta and the people are very friendly, though I do not believe English is a strength (I was with a fluent Spanish speaker)

Room Tip: Make sure you get a view of Gibraltar, its amazing looking across the sea at another continent.

We were a little disappointed in the decor of the Parador, it does not match the standard of many of the other Paradors we have visited and it is showing its age. However, the setting was magnificent. We had a terrace which looked over the Strait to the Rock of Gibraltar. The Parador is within walking distance of most of the sights and the ferry port. The garden and pool area is pleasant and the rooms are adequate.

Room Tip: If you are interested in history and/or geography a room with a sea view over the Strait where the A...

Yes, it's a tad old-fashioned, but that's part of its charm.

It is very well sited and you either get a seaview and see the military next door, or look over the pool and the cathedral square, great for watching the bride arrive!

The rooms are large and comfortable, bathrooms a bit antiquated but clean. The pool area with lawn and trees is not large, but very pleasant and better than other hotels here, where space is as limited as in Gib.

The food is good but pricey by Ceuta standards. Very pleasant dining on the terrace.

You can walk easily to the fabulous Laguna, the Casino, along the shopping streets, and to catch the round Ceuta boat trip, as well as the beach. Great location and overall a pleasant hotel.

I spent one night at Parador Hotel La Muralla and I believe its distinguishing features are the size of the rooms and the location. Although I was traveling alone, I had a huge room complete with a living space, balcony and two queen beds. The beds were comfortable, though thankfully the weather was just the right temperature because I couldn't figure out how to get the air to work. :) The Parador was a nice change from some of the hotels in which I had stayed during my travels in Morocco, but as mentioned in other reviews, the decorations did feel old and worn. Since I was only in Ceuta for one night, I appreciated the hotel's location as it afforded me the opportunity to see the main sights by foot within a short period of time.

We spent one night in this parador and we left with mixed feelings. The decoration really needs an upgrade, as the last time the hotel was refurbished it must have been in the eighties. The views are stunning. It just felt a little old style and too quiet. Staff was nice though.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with seaview, on the upper floors

The building and appointments while dowdy are clean and well maintained. We arrived after a long rainy day in Tangier. The staff was happy to see us and check us in until we had a question. At that point we were an intrusion and treated as such.

A perfect example, in the bar we asked and received a menu and proceeded to order. This was met by a flurry of arm waving and denial. Thinking we had mispronounced a word or the name of our order, we pointed to the menu which was again met a lot of arm waving and a general air of indignity that we expected our choices to be prepared. Every time we were ready for more drink we had to go stick our heads behind the bar and ask for the waiter as the bartender would only fill orders for the bar not the lounge.

It was clean and the bed was very nice so the hotel is good not very good but I thought it above average.

It's a bit of a hike to get to Ceuta but it is a fascinating town and a safe base for a little foray into Morocco. The parador is more or less modern and a bit worn but very spacious with lovely public areas and an excellent pool. Our room was large with the bonus of a luggage/dressing room but it overlooked the car park, albeit also with harbor views. There was a good balcony but we were overlooked by a military facility next door. Breakfast was not as good as most paradors but the restaurant served very good food and wine. Overall Ceuta wasn't great for food -- maybe because of it's removal from the mainland. The parador lunch was by far the best meal we had there. Because of our lack of Spanish we really had no communication with the desk staff for 4 days after checkin. This wasn't a problem until I discovered I had laft my favorite swimsuit in the room after departure. I emailed the hotel but received no reply of any kind. Totally my fault for leaving it behind but I was rather disappointed not to have a recovery shot. Despite all this, I reiterate that it is a really delightful and relaxing place to stay. Sometimes there is a smal price to pay for travelling in a country where you do not speak the local language.

Room Tip: We were unable to upgrade on arrival because of language difficulties. It you want a superior room...

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
The lovely city of Ceuta stands between two seas. And gazing out at them from a spectacular spot is the Parador, a modern building abutting the ancient Royal Walls, located in the center of the town. The vaults of the former artillery depot were erected on top of the walls. Today they have been converted into fantastic hotel suites. The Parador de Ceuta is a modern building surrounded by a garden of magnificent palm trees, with a swimming pool enveloped by the breeze from the sea just a few meters away. The building and decor reveal obvious Arab and Andalusian influences. You will love details such as the lamps and the bright guest rooms. ... more   less
