“Best historic site in Tarragona”
Reviewed August 9, 2014 via mobile

Although it doesn't looking from the outside this was one of the highlights of our trip to Tarragona.

I admit when I first went in my prime concern was does it have toilet? (It does and they're surprisingly nice) but after discovering the answer to that question satisfyingly quickly we want in to explore the ruins for a couple of hours.

Much of the site is subterranean including the vaults that once have access to the enormous circus. There's an impressive 90m vault but the site also allows you access to two towers that give great views over the Tarragona skyline.

In addition to the usually impressive Roman aspect there are also some rooms about the medieval history of the area in addition to one that covers the use of a tower as a prison during the Spanish civil war and during the Franco dictatorship. And all for under 4 euros and nippers go free. And there's a toilet. Much better than the Ampitheatre( same price: pointless). Go here instead.

“Layers of Civilisation”
Reviewed July 29, 2014 via mobile

While many parts of this attraction need work and in other parts the work that has been done has been hamfisted at best this is a very interesting attraction. There are great views over Tarragona and the Mediterranean from the terraces at the northern end, some nice pieces of stone with Roman inscriptions and carved reliefs and inflation that this complex of vaults and chambers and nooks has been in use until the modern day. The Roman, mediaeval and modern day trip over one another. It reminds me a little of Dubrovnic but quite so picturesque.

Saying all that it is just a few Euros to go in and there are really not many tourists here so not so crowded. Enjoy!

“Interesting building”
Reviewed July 25, 2014

Interesting Roman buildings that are spread out in the center of Tarragona. The buildings are located both above and below ground. It is good to study a map or model to understand the scale of the buildings.
Unbelievable how well preserved the unearthed parts of the tunnels.

It's a great attraction, just across the road from the Ampitheatre. It's nice and central and there is plenty to see. It was factual and interesting. The site is in good condition considering the age of the ruins. The tower at the back end of the Circus gives fantastic views across the region. There are a couple of great restaurants at the back of the tower. Good local food.

“Just lovely”
Reviewed July 1, 2014

Only had a short stay in Tarragona, would defiantly return for a longer stay. Have visited a lot of places in Spain over many years and found this one of the most interesting and nicest places we have been. The Circus is quite unique and not overrun by tourists, impressive as over the sea front. Certainly recommend.
