“Excellent Hotel, great location, great food”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 1, 2010

My husband and I spent a week in this hotel from 20th September. We've been to Sitges three times and we have certainly found a gem. The hotel is dated but exceptionally clean, we had a room to the front with a sea viea which was excellent. The room was spacious and cleaned to the highest standard every day. Sitges has numerous amazing restaurants but the hotel restaurant was so good we ate there every night - the fish dishes were outstanding. The restaurant staff were very helpful and extremely pleasant as were all the hotel staff they couldn't do enough for their guests. We've eaten in many Sitges restaurants over the past number of years and this restaurant was one of the cheapest and one of the best. The location couldn't be better direcly across the road from the beach which is very clean and well serviced by sun beds, umbrellas, shop, etc. We will certainly be back to stay in the Santa Maria Hotel for many years to come.

Typical late 60s or 70s beach front hotel but well maintained. Back of building rooms overlook a mess but the view of the hills and sun in the evening is very nice with less street noise. Great breakfast served street/sea side. 50 steps across the street and you are on the beach! Two blocks inland, the pedestrian mall is full of shops and restos. Street parking can be found 3 blocks south and two blocks inland and was very safe in a nice neighborhood. Pleasant, helpful, English speaking staff. Perfect! Will return.

My wife and I spent a lovely 11 days at this wonderful hotel. WE originally had a large room with a balcony at the back of the hotel which was clean and spacious. Talking to the owner later she offered us an equally larg room with a sea viw for a few euros more. The bathroom was enormous with 2 basins! The whole staff were always friendly and helpful. There is a large restaurant which is always busy with locals which tells you how good the food was. Lots of different choices. We are already looking forwards to going again later this year.

We have stayed in many hotels in Sitges and several times in the Santa Maria.
I would like to share our experience on Tripadvisor.
Our latest stay was just for two nights taking in the yearly “Old Car Rally”.
The hotel is situated right on the seafront just minutes from the beach, shopping and nightlife.
We received a really warm welcome at the reception.
Our sea-view room was very spacious and clean. Weather in Sitges can be changeable in March so we really appreciated the remote-controlled air-conditioning to cool a little during the day and also to make the room cosy at night. The bathroom was also spacious with a tub/shower and bidet. The shower has a liquid soap dispenser (Lux) and there are small soaps and shampoos….. if you like a special brand you should maybe bring your own. In the room there was a large closet with plenty of hangers, a comfortable armchair, a table with two chairs and a desk. The TV is small but with programmes in English, French, German and Spanish. There is also a minibar with soft drinks and room to stock your own provisions !
Breakfast is included in the room rate and is served on the terrace or inside till 10.30a.m. (yes, Sitges night life made us miss the breakfast once !) There is a buffet selection of ham, cheeses, boiled eggs, yoghurt, pastries and local specialities. Coffee and tea are served at your table.
The “à la carte” menu for lunch and dinner on the terrace or in the dining room is so extensive that it is hard to make up your mind….loads of choices of paella, seafood, meat dishes and also choices for vegetarians ! The prices are very reasonable so you can choose to suit your budget. We chose the “Mariscada” a rich assortment of seafood….lobster tails, gambas, prawns, mussels, razor shells and seafood cocktail. It was, I think, the most expensive item on the menu but was a real meal for two so we didn’t have a starter. We finished up with a “crema catalana” , the local equivalent of crème caramel…light and delicious. Beware, however, the restaurant is very popular with locals from Barcelona especially at weekends……so let reception know if you would like a nice table on the terrace.
As other posters have said, the owner is present from early morning to late at night. She supervises her staff so you get great customer service and deals with any problems you might encounter. A photo of her late husband is over the fireplace - the Santa Maria is a family affair.
All the rooms in the Santa Maria are different which adds to the charm (it is a heritage building). For the physically challenged, take note that there are a few steps up to the reception area, otherwise an elevator serves all floors.

We cannot wait to go back !

Highly recommended.

The hotel is ideally located across from the beach. When I arrived I was not able to check in straight away, and so I was upgraded to a better room, thanks!

The restaurant is the best on the beach. I found the staff to be very friendly. Would definitely stay here again, and recommend it highly.

We stayed at this hotel for 3 nights this year, the resort was great , and very cosmipolitan. However I was really disappointed with our room, although it had a sea view which was great it was quite grubby and hadn't been decorated for years, also the bathroom wasn't nice, with cracked tiles and a toilet that run all the time. The staff were slightly rude and the waiters just generally complaciant, as this hotel is busy because of its location they seem to have let their standards slip.
I wouldn't stay here again.

Reasonable and clean hotel in great location. The restaurant downstairs is the best along the beach.
