The hotel is decent, clean and comfortable but fairly basic. Breakfast was great, cooked food and fruit, bread, yoghurt a etc.
The best thing by far is having a quiet Monsterrat in the evening, what a difference to during the day. We took our own picnic food for the evening and sat looking over the world with no one around us. In the morning I had a walk around about 7.30, the morning service was on and it is just so stunning. Also it is great to be there early as there were no queues for the funiculars, which it would highly recommend. Visit the Madonna first thing in the morning, around7.30 to avoid queues.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the square.

Awesome place to visit for its beauty and serenity. The hotel is very clean, people are nice but the beds are small and not so comfortable. Also lack AC so hot in the summer. If you want a quiet evening it is magical, once the tourists leave it is quient and tranquel. Personally, I am torn b/w staying here and heading back to barcelona for a more comfortable bed and better food and nightlife. For a quite evening it is worth a night. Good value on the hotel room but food was pricy for the quality which was solid but not great.

Don't bother to go to Monserrat unless you can stay overnight. After the tours leave, it becomes a peaceful, spiritual monastery where you can enjoy the evening performance of the choir and spend quality time with the Madonna. Getting to Monserrat by car is confusing and driving up to the hotel is confusing as well. You have to ask the guard to move the barrier. The hotel staff is awesome. The rooms are a bit institutional and can get a little warm. The restaurant gave poor service and the food was just okay. I think that the hotel and the restaurant could be upgraded; however, it's the only one there so I doubt it will change. Because it's really the only way to experience Monserrat, I would definitely recommend staying there.

It is worth staying at this hotel because it is the only way to access Montserrat without the hoards of tourists. At night and in the early morning is the best way to enjoy this place, because then it is very quiet and peaceful. During the day it is overrun. The hotel itself was nice enough, the decorations were dated and the wifi was sporadic. The staff at reception were nice, but you had to go searching for anyone to help you at the the bar.
As to the restaurant - I suggest taking your own food and having a picnic in your room. The restaurant is REALLY overpriced and very very average food wise. We ordered potatoes as a side dish, which costs us 6 euros, and it consisted of a few slices of potatoes thrown on a plate. The breakfast also left a lot to be desired. The problem is that there are no other places to eat in Montserrat after 5pm, so the hotel has a monopoly.
So yes, stay here, but don't eat here - take your own food.

Room Tip: make sure to ask for a room with a view of the square - otherwise you will be looking out at a rock...

This hotel was way too expensive! Especially fot being the beginning of June. We ended up paying 120 pounds a night forva double room. I could not sleep properly the second night.because it was too warm inside the room. They had probably switched on the heating.

We took the train from Barcelona and the narrow RR up to the top of the mountain. This hotel is hard to find on the internet... TripAdvisor said at first that Montserrat did not have any hotels! It is very nice. Roomy by Europeon standards. Clean. And so wonderfully quiet. All the day tourists go down on the last train and there is silence. And you can still visit the Black Madonna - late at night and early in the morning. After seeing the lines in the day time, I was alone with her twice. Powerful. The hotel also has a very nice restaurant. I highly recommend this for a quiet retreat.

A quick visit to see friends, where shall we meet? Montserrat suggested, a short drive for them and a train for me. Very busy when I arrived around lunchtime, the area is very popular but only accessible by coach, train, or cable car, so limited crowds. Only residents and hotel guests stay at night, so by 6pm it was really really empty, very nice, and very peaceful. The hotel was grand, helpful, pleasant smiling staff, good food int eh restaurant, clean rooms. Yes the bells from the monastery are a tad loud, especially a couple of times during the early morning......................not that bad though. Great base for walks nearby, using funicular to get high easy - alternative path back down can be a tad hard on the legs, be warned!

Room Tip: If you can get a room to the front the view down the valley is superb.
