“An epiphany”

Simply exquisite, with one explosion of taste after the other. The surroundings were also impeccable, as was the service. Overall, this was without a doubt the most extraordinary culinary experience of my life. I took my mother for her birthday, and she just melted over the food. Afterwards we met Joan, who was courtesy personified. Never to be forgotten, and perhaps never to be equalled, either.

“Amazing Experience”
Reviewed April 28, 2014 via mobile

On the 25th of April, my wife and I had the wonderful experience of being able to eat the the world's number one restaurant. We had booked the reservation almost a year ago after the restaurant had one it's title for the best restaurant in the world.

It was an awesome experience. We arrived early and were given a glass of cava while we were waiting. It was a gorgeous sunny day so we were given the aperitives in the garden. The service was excellent right from the start through to the finish, and the food was just exquisite. Going to the best restaurant in the world you expect it to be great, but it was sensational. Amazing invention with the various dishes, amazingly cooked food that didn't stop tantalizing the taste buds from start to finish. And the desserts followed by the coffee and sweet trolley was great to round it off. It was also nice to have a momento of the menú to take away with you. I hope we get the opportunity to experience this wonderful restaurant again in the future.

“Over expectations, even with 3 stars michelin and a top world title this place is still underrated!”
Reviewed April 23, 2014

My Girlfriend and I went there yesterday and were overwhelmed by the excellence of the 25 dishes or more composing this unforgettable Menu, the perfection of the service, the kindness of M.Joan Roca himself who spent time discussing with us, the excellence of the wine pairing prepared by M.Josep Roca, it was hard not to surrender to emotions during this culinary faultless experience!
Having participated to many Dinners organized by Hotels in Thailand inviting European Chefs, often a ripp of over 250 € per head, I was amazed to see that the World top restaurant was only charging 190€ for 25 dishes, and 90 € only for 13 very unusual wines and liquors!
It s also hard to say which dish was the most amazing, from the very first caramelized olive, the caviar omelette, white asparagus truffle viennetta, the sea anemones salad, the sponge cake of plankton, head of prawn juice with seaweed, the spicy mandala of artichoke flower/lamb belly/lamb sweetbreads and curry yoghurt imagined by Jordi Roca after his Indian trip, the pigeon trilogy with pigeon consommé or the chocolate anarchy of cocoa from 8 different countries made with 16 different textures! The Roca Brothers are the 3 Magnificent Masters of Molecular Culinary and authentic Flavors, I still don't know why so many people deny the compatibility of these 2 Realms, they should definitly pay a visit to El Celler de CAn Roca to learn 1 thing or 2 about the Art of Cooking PErfect Food! The only down feeling after such a wonderful Dinner is to think about where to eat next...

“Fantastic meal - never to be forgotten!”
Reviewed April 4, 2014 via mobile

We went on holiday to Girona specifically so we could visit this restaurant. And we weren't disappointed. We took the kids and they loved it too. The restaurant was fantastic with them. Taster menu plus taster wines - we'll never forget our meal. It's become part of our family history. We were unexpectedly given the opportunity to join friends for dinner at El Cellar Can Roca and given that the waiting list is around 12 months, we jumped at the chance. The building itself is quite modern and attractive. Tables are spaced well and surround a central space so you don't feel as if you are in one, square, room. There are two menus - Classics and Feast - and we chose the latter. After a host of Amuses Bouches, I think we had 13 courses and matching wines. Description is difficult because this cooking is so original and clever. We had caramelised olives served on a Bonsai olive tree; tapas from around the world - Mexico, Peru, China, Marroco, and Korea - tiny but packed with flavours and ingredients from the represented country. And on it went. White asparagus and truffle viennetta; a variety of Calcot (onions); tiny pieces of mackerel presented to look like the whole fish; sea anemone; baby octopus; a langoustine steamed at the table in Sherry, etc, etc. Too much to describe meaningfully. It was epic and I can understand why this restaurant is so highly rated. If you only go to one more restaurant in your life, make it this one! Oh, and Girona is also a great City with lots to see so kill two birds with one stone (ah, yes, I think we had pigeon as well!).
