“Delicious food with imagination perfect service”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 1, 2014

We had lunch with my husband today. We arrived by train to Girona at lunch time and decided to try a restaurant there before going to our house in Costa brava. We were very surprised by the quality of this restaurant. We had the set menu with delicious dishes such as a carpaccio of funghi porccini and shrimps tartare with truffle, a fantastic porc belly with aubergine and wonderful deserts... Actually one of the best I've ever had a crispy chocolate cover and soft white chocolate mousse with guzu sorbet. Prices are high but extremely reasonable for a restaurant of such quality. Perfect service. We'll definitely go back... And it is easier to go there than to find a table at El celler de can Roca 11 months before the date you want to go!

“Lunch”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 17, 2014

Booked via internet. Location is easy to find, its on the road with the railway nr centre of Girona.
Its the type of location to select if you're on holiday for a special meal. Its High end dining.
The food is very nice, the prices are high but thats what you have to expect for a very well prepared and presented meal. The service is good and menus are an English. it seems romantic to have menus in catalan or spanish but at the end of the day its nice to have at least an idea of what you are ordering. I wouldn't suggest Vegetarians would find this restaurant that welcoming but then again generally Spanish restaurants in my limited experience enjoy celebrating local ingredients!!

“Sheer unadulterated joy”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 24, 2013

We choose the gourmet tasting menu at 85 Euro plus the accompanying wine at 39 Euro for our first meal in Girona and what a joy it was from start to finish. The menu strode through the whole gambit of ingredients from sea and land and each was an exciting exploration offered by a master chef concocting like a magician flavours and textures on your palette which you would never have known could have existed. Not only this but the presentation delighted the eye and stirred the imagination. A series of Tapas were offered at the start including the extraordinary "Salmó semicurat fumat al moment i salsa ponzu " where the salmon was served by the waiter as he dramatically lifted the glass jar to allow a wave of smoke from within the jar to escape to reveal the gently smoked salmon beneath. Amazing. Instructions were given on how to eat tapas which exploded as you placed it in your mouth. Gently leading you in with the Foie gras in its glass which melted in the mouth you were served the fabulous ceps dish. Difficult as it was to choose a favourite course, the "TARDOR" course was extraordinary in its presentation drawing you into believing with your eyes you would taste egg yolks where your taste buds revealed something quite exquisitely different. The duck was beautifully cooked as was the fish and the Citrus course freshened your palette beautifully before the delightful ice cream shaped like a coconut.

The wines were extremely well chosen. The service was impeccable. The decor was modern and comfortable.

This is a destination restaurant well worth the search as it sits in the road running under the raised railway with a reticent street frontage. All the visual energy is expended inside. Superb.

“Hidden Gem!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 2, 2013

Our first choice in Girona Spain was to dine at El Celler de Can Roca famed as the No 1 restaurant in the world however they were taking reservations for late 2014!!

Our second choice was the other Michelin star restaurant in Girona - Massana.

Not easy to find in a back street with no real distinctive sign or entrance. Once in and seated we had a memorable three hours of dining. Every tasting dish was special from the yoghurt foie gras, carpaccio to the succulent prawns. With a wonderful bottle of Catalan Penedes Cava followed by an excellent Emporda Cabernet Sauvignon to accompany our gourmet menu Massana made our day in Girona.

“Great and innovative food, great staff”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 29, 2013

A group of 13 of us enjoyed the Gourmet Menu / Wine selection at Massana. The food was very good, and innovative (yoghurt foi gras, red tuna on lentil stew with bacon and wakame seaweed, coconut banana guacamole...) We had the wine selection with this -- very good wines, and very good value. The staff were efficient and friendly. To get to the back group room one walks through the kitchen -- and this was spotless and very well organized (always reassuring). It is certainly worth having a special dinner here.
