I find it very hard to understand why a recent Spanish reviewer has described this bakery/coffee shop as 'Mal, muy mal!'. Our experience was 'good, very good'.
In terms of location it's behind the Hotel Ciutat de Girona. It's unimposing from the road, and the seating area has no windows, but the quality of food, service and coffee we had were outstanding.
Essentially, as non Spanish speakers, we found it easy to order coffees and juices at the table but had to resort to accompanying the waitress to the display counters to order the cakes and sandwiches we wanted. All this happened with the greatest good humour on their part, however busy the place was.
We breakfasted here at less than half the cost of what a hotel would charge, and loved the food. Sandwiches to take away were also great.
