We have done twelve different cycling tours on our visits to Europe and this was by far the best .Vivian,Allan, and our guide Steffan, could not have given us better personal service. They were friendly, caring, ensuring we were having a great time. The hotels were excellent. We had great tapas lunches in the little villages, informative wine tastings, and the cooking school was superb. We enjoyed riding through the rice fields and along the Catalan coast. It is an easy cycling tour which we can heartily recommend.

I'm a keen cyclist with a property in Calella de Palafrugell. I think the itineries look really good but some of the info isn't quite right on the Medieval Villages and Coastal paths of Catalonia tour. On day 4 the Hotel Garbi is at least 15 minutes walk to the beaches and restaurants not 5 minutes. On day 5 the route to the Botanical Gardens and over to Castels beach is rated easy to moderate. It definitely isn't. Depending upon the route you take, to get to the gardens alone requires quite a steep climb from the hotel and to get from the Gardens to Castels is a very strenuous climb followed by along, steep and bumpy downhill path. I'm not saying it isn't worth doing - it's one of my favourite routes, but just be aware of the difficulty before you set off. If you are doing it go right out of the hotel on the Carrer Sard until you reach the Cami Jardi Botanic where you take a left. Keep on this path and you will get to the Gardens easily. Don't be tempted to take the Av Baldomer. Likewise, Llafranc is a very pretty resort, but has a very stiff climb out. In the summer, you don't have to walk or ride up the hill to the lighthouse. You can take the little tourist train instead. It's a monster of a hill under your own steam.

Thank you very much for taking the time to look at our web site and delighted to hear you think our itineraries look really good. Regards the Medieval Villages and Coastal paths tour you mention that the Hotel Garbi is at least a 15 minute walk to the beaches and restaurants but in fact if you come out of the hotel's front garden, cross Av Baldomer and cut through the lane past the supermarket you will reach Pelegri beach and a lovely restaurant within 5 minutes. There is also a family friendly restaurant on the corner of Av B. which is a short stroll from the hotel. I agree that to reach the centre of Calella and some of the other beaches does take around 15 minutes by foot or five minutes by bike and we would be very happy to include this information when we are next updating our site. You are correct when you mention that there are two ways to reach Cap Roig and Castells and as this tour is graded easy to moderate we recommend the Carrer Sard route not the direct route up Av Baldomer.
Most of our guests are very active and enjoy following a section of the Camino de Ronda coastal path up to San Sebastian for magnificent views and a great photo opportunity but we can certainly mention the little tourist train ( runs high season only) for those that might like a less challenging morning!
As a fellow cyclist and someone who also lives here please feel free to contact me at any time with tips, ideas on how to improve our service.

For my wife and I, this was our first extended cycling trip, post retirement, in Europe. We opted for a week-long tour, and couldn't be happier with Cycle Catalan as a service provider and host. Alan looked after us and provided lots of local detail and colour. Accommodations were perfectly located and of excellent quality. Highly recommended!

We had a lovely holiday cycling through beautiful countryside and villages. The food and hotels were great all due to such good organisation by Alan and Vivian. The chosen hotels provided lots of variety and we would recommend the holiday to anyone wanting a relaxing but active break. The only thing Alan didn't fix was the weather, just not Spain's usual sunshine that we Brits long for!

Took Cycle Catalan's "Mountains, Countryside and the Sea" self guided cycling tour and had a really great cycling holiday. Vivian answered my emails very quickly (they are, of course, on European time) and then helped finalize the trip over the phone within a day. She also helped set up a pre-trip visit to nearby Figueres to see the Dali Museum and a couple days of mountain biking post-trip (also a lot of fun).

Alan did an outstanding job of supporting the trip the whole way, from arrival at the train station until departure for Barcelona. He is very friendly and a great source of useful information. Alan really took care of it all and made everything hassle free--routes all planned out, restaurant recommendations, luggage transfers and suggestions for side trips. The touring bike and the mountain bike were both pretty new, in good shape and well tuned up; bike lock, spare tubes, etc. all provided. Alan's local knowledge and relationships with the hotels along the way ensured each night was in a good room in a high quality hotel--and some of the hotels turned out to be highlights of the trip too. He was also available by phone and twice when called was right there on the phone to help out.

This part of Europe and the route itself made for a great self-guided cycling trip with lots of variety in terrain, good trail conditions, favorable climate, generally respectful drivers and reasonable prices. Lots of interesting places to stop and tour, including volcanoes in Olot, the old town in Girona and the beaches on the coast. There were also lots of side trips available along the route, so it was easy to add in some extra cycling each day. Signage on and around the cycle route is excellent so it would be hard to get lost for very long.

Overall I think Cycle Catalan offered outstanding service, itinerary and value. Found it far better to work with them than a "plan and book it yourself" trip. Would highly recommend working with them and looking forward to another Cycle Catalan trip in the future!
