While on a trip to Girina,we spotted this bar and restaurant and after looking at the various menus we decided to try it out on our next visit a few days later. We arrived at the bar at 5pm only to be told that the kitchen closes from 4pm to 6.30pm each day - there was no visible sign saying this. Also we were told that the Menu of the Day only refers to lunchtime - again no mention of this on the Menu pinned up outside the bar.We came back at 6.30pm and ordered our meal.Unfortunately we were soon surrounded by young spanish teenagers, some of whom decided that it would be great fun to start throwing empty cigarette boxes from one table to another. We really thought that a member of staff would have a word with them but this didnt happen. It just looked like they accepted this behaviour. As we were tired and weary , we decided to wait for our food and left soon after. We did notice however that at least one family and 2 other couples just got up and left without ordering anything while this was going on - so the bar was losing customers who were probably going to have a meal to teenagers who were just nursing one drink !!! Maybe its just me but I dont see any sense in this.

I met some nice customers in this bar but there was something missing. I asked if the sound could be put up for the Munster hurling final which was half over and was told ok but just for half an hour. There was only me and a couple from Wicklow and we all wanted to watch the game. I thought it was a strange strategy. On the other hand ,there was a tall and pretty Spanish waitress who was totally charming. All in all worth a visit but turn up the sound

McKeirnans is a lovely bar with a great atmosphere, set in a lovely part of the old town. We didn't eat there but the service at the bar was great. Really friendly bar staff & very quick service. It was really busy, mainly with Spanish people. Would definitely recommend.

Popped in for lunch. Good range of sandwiches/ snacks and a decent pint. Had a couple of vegetarian options too. Pleasant outdoor seating area, friendly staff and service. Would like to see a 'bitter' on tap ... Or in a bottle as that was the only 'suggestion' I could make.

Being Irish, I usually avoid "Irish Bars" like the plague, especially in Spain. Generally speaking, they are so false as to laughable and charge "Irish" prices, which are amongst the most expensive in the world.
"McKiernans", however, is an exception. This bar/restaurant is situated on the Ramblas in Girona's old town. It is actually owned by McKiernans and I had the pleasure of speaking to Linda, the proprieter. The bar is very well designed and furnished and impeccably clean. The service is professional, courteous yet friendly. The food is varied and tasty and the drink, especially the Guinness, top class. The prices were average for the Ramblas. Apart from one other Irish couple, the patrons appeared to be mostly local - a sure sign of a good establishment.
Certainly a Bar/Restaurant to be partonised. We look forward to further visits.
