We initially tracked down another restaurant which had been mentioned in TripAdvisor and was situated in this bustling square. But as with many other restaurants in prime locations they'd jumped on the bandwagon of charging a higher price for the 'Menu del dia' during the Girona flower and accapella festivals!
We spotted this restaurant, which was empty inside when we entered just before 1p.m but within minutes we were joined by many Spaniards; and clearly it was a favourite of theirs!
The menu del dia was a very reasonable 15 euros each and this comprised of a starter, main course, dessert and one drink. The additional glass of wine that I ordered cost a mere 1.50 euros and certainly wasn't of inferior quality.
The meal that I chose started with a delicious tomato salad followed by monkfish with a sauce. I must admit the quantity of the main course wasn't overly generous; but the fresh bread we had to accompany was ideal for mopping up the sauce (and they didn't charge us extra for further bread as many places seem prone to doing!)
The service was very brusque, but efficient and realistically they were no more charming towards any of their local clientele!!
If we'd been eating out again in that vicinity we'd certainly have returned rather than paying an over inflated price for lunch at other establishments.
