Hotel Carlemany, Placa Miquel Santalo, Girona, Spain
My wife and I stayed at this hotel for a city break in October, arriving from Girona Airport by Barcelona Bus at a cost of Euros 2.60 each. The bus seems to run once an hour and takes 25 minutes to get to Girona bus station, which is next to the train station. The really nice thing is that the hotel is only a five minute walk from the bus station, an easy drag of the suitcases.
The hotel is situated next to shops and is a ten minute walk to the tourist centre where there are street restaurants, the old Jewish sector with its very interesting cobbled streets and alleyways, and the old city wall to walk along. Although the hotel is in a busy area once inside the hotel it is quiet. We arrived at noon and the efficient reception was able to give us our room straight away. The room is of the usual European standard smallish room with most things that might be needed. Stocked mini bar, toiletries, flat screen tv, the only English channel was BBC News, room Wi-Fi, spacious safe, and a comfortable large bed. There was no tea and coffee making facilities; this is such a pity as room service does not start until at 8:00 am. For us this was a big bad point as we like to have a tea and coffee when we wake up in the morning. Breakfast was an expensive 14.00 Euros each, however a five minute walk back to the bus station and there is a very good inside and outside eatery - Inversions Pils Plas. We had breakfast there for less than 10 Euros for the two of us. Another big down point is that evening food is not served until 9 o'clock in the evening in the restaurant which is far too late for us to start eating. However, the restaurant did have a very good wine list, and it was possible to sit outside people watching drinking wine while waiting for the hot food to start.
Overall we had a nice time in this quiet hotel and it is very close to the train and bus station, and easy walk to the tourist sights.
When in town as a tourist, do have a meal at Cafe Le Bistrot, Pujada Sant Domenec, which is in the Jewish area. We paid 30 Euros for the both of us from a set meal, starter, main and pudding, from a range of meals with a bottle of nice wine. We arrived at 1 o'clock when they were opening up and sat outside, we very much enjoyed eating there. Good food service and atmosphere.
