“Worthy experience”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 29, 2012

Good tapas dinner establishment off the beaten track in old town Girona.

Food was good with a wide variety of dishes for multiple palates. ( ordered 6 items plus 2 desserts, for 2 people and it was plenty of food. yum!)

We showed up a few minutes before they opened for dinner and Enrique welcomed us in. He found us an English menu and mentioned a couple of daily specials, we tried the duck lasagna and gnocchi with mushroom sauce in particular and it was excellent.

The have their own house wine which is not bad and didn't seem to clash with any of the menu selections.

Of the 3 nights we spent in town it was the best overall dinner experience we had in that they welcomed us in and seemed genuinely happy to chat with us and make sure we liked everything we ordered. He picked a coupled of desserts out for us since they had around 10 and we couldn't decide.

In a town overrun with tourists there are still some places like this where you can go and enjoy the entire experience of dinner and enjoy the company you are with because you know they will get you some tasty bites.

“Friendly, fun and good food!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 19, 2012 via mobile

We loved this restaurant which is quirky and different, so much so that we went for dinner and then lunch during our stay in Girona.it is near the cathedral, the propietor is young and friendly with a great sense of humour and the menu has some unusual dishes on it. The food was delicious!

“Tasty but not scrumptious.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 18, 2012

Myself and a small party of friends wanted a fairly light meal as we had a large lunch reservation the next day. Having read the Trip Advisor reviews I decided this would be an ideal restaurant and attempted to make a reservation using the email address given on Trip Advisor. Unfortunately there was not a reply and I got the same result to my second email. However, we still decided to use the restaurant. We arrived about 8pm and had a pick of the tables. As it was a warm balmy evening we sat outside on the very small terrace, (I don’t think health and safety regulations have filtered through to Girona yet).
The waiter advised us that two tapas each was usually a good guide. In our case it turned out to be four. The food is not exceptional but it is enjoyable. We had a few bottles of wine plus a desert each and it was certainly the cheapest meal we had in Girona.
El Didal is not that difficult to find. Stand at the bottom of the cathedral steps facing the cathedral. Go up the road running parallel and to the right of the steps, it is slightly uphill. After about 30/40 metres the road takes a 90 degree bend to the right. Walk straight ahead for 80/100 metres and El Didal is directly in front of you. Should it be dark you can see the restaurant lights from the bend.
I would go again, it is a quirky/fun type of restaurant.

“Inexpensive and tasty”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 29, 2012

All tapas all the time...all one price (under 4 each). Good flavours and good service. They found an English menu for us. They suggest six items for two people but if you are hungry you may need a couple more. Salads were a bit larger than anticipated. Both the carrot salad and bacon salad were really tasty. We had the carrot cake and cheese cake which are made in house. Not sweet at all until you added the jam. With a bottle of wine it was under 50 euros.

“Friendly quirky quality”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 29, 2012

Just down a backstreet from the cathedral, this small tapas restaurant sits in a lesser frequented location. On the evening we ate (on the tiny terrace) we were first there, but by we were leaving it was full and buzzing, with folk of all ages. With excellent friendly service, a good range of simple but quality tapas and reasonable prices we could see why. The interior has been well described by other reviewers, but if you like any of the clothing on show, it can be made to commission by a friend of the restaurant owners.
